I hate for this to be my first ever thread, but I never thought I had anything unique to post about.......so.

Some guy under the influence of alcohol named Richard rear ended me yesterday while I was at a dead stop waiting for a left turn light to turn green. Most importantly, no one was hurt! Aside from that, I was violated in the rear by some drunk Dick in a Taco pulling a boat🥴.

I'm still waiting on the insurance company to get back to me, but he thinks it's going to be totaled. I smelled the gun powdery airbag smell, but nothing deployed. Also, cudos to Jeep, I barely felt jostled and the seatbelt held me in place perfectly!

I'll post some pictures here and welcome any comments or feedback on similar situations and experiences. I'm contemplating buying it back if they total it because I love the hell out of this truck and the diesel powerplant that I ordered it with.

P.S. This is the first new vehicle that I've ever special ordered....I'm kinda bummed out😞.

Glad you were OK, sorry for your beautiful truck.

There are a lot of Drunk Richards on the roads here in NE Florida. They get a wink and a nod from local judges and are immediately released to do it again. The winks and nods only stop when the drunken Richard kills somebody, then they usually get a plea deal for 8 years. Never seen a drunken Richard driver in this part of Florida ever get the 20 year maximum for drunk driving vehicular homicide.

Very sorry to hear about the accident but happy no one was hurt. Just going by the pictures, if I were in your shoes I’d be thinking buy back also because the damage doesn’t look that bad. To me that doesn’t look totaled but its tough to tell much from pictures

I didn't just mean it as a joke. His name really is Richard. Haha. Also nice to see someone from the same neck of the woods as me. Watch out on SR 17 in Fleming Island and Orange Park. 😁

I've heard that the airbag deployment/failure can be an expensive fix and they weight pretty heavy on totaling when that happens. I didn't see any frame damage, but I'm no expert either. If they do total it, I'll have a shop take a good look at it before I choose to buy it back. I've got people telling me that I should hope it will be totaled because of future diminished value as well.

I'm glad you're fine and that your Jeep protected you. I have to ask... what rack is that?

She's not even dead yet and the vultures are already coming out. 🤣

It's Go Rhino and I wouldn't recommend it unless you get one already put together. I had a lot of fitment issues while putting it together and had to re-drill and tap some of the thread holes. The fasteners are already starting to rust as well. I bought an extra fold down side table that comes up to my chest that I was going to modify to lower to the top of my rear fender.

Looking at the alignment of the bed to the cab, I don’t know how the frame wouldn’t be bent at this point. I wouldn’t accept a frame repair. I’d want a new frame.
Unless the bed just crumpled.

Thanks for the info! I have been looking through some of the previous posts and reading about some of the insurance company issues that people have had.

Also, that's what I think I'm seeing, a crumpled bed. But with the hitch receiver bent down, I'm worried the frame was impacted somehow. Even though I personally don't see any damage.

Additionally, when I think about the way the truck pulling the boat hit me(those pictures I took aren't very good), the whole front skid rode up onto my hitch pushing forward and down. Thats a lot of force focused on 1 point coming from that Taco pulling the boat. But so far I can only see the tubing of the hitch that is attached to the frame that is bent, so 🤷‍♂️.
