I think top of the world is definitely more challenging than metal masher. Not dangerous, but just lots of ledges that need the right lines. Some trail ratings are hard to judge, IMO. Also depends on what you skip.
I haven't ran the particular trail in the video, but I did other stuff in Moab.
I thought Metal Masher (rated a 7 in most books) was a cake walk in my 2 door JK on 33s, but I simply bypassed all the gnarly obstacles, lol.
Top of the World was rated lower, but I found it to be more problematic.
Well if I’m ever in a position to get out there I may bend your ear and see if you have time to get out there and do some wheeling. Moab and a couple other trails are on the bucket list and it’s almost time to fill that bucket.I’m 5.5 hours away.
Please do. I’m always looking for an excuse. My favorite place in the world.Well if I’m ever in a position to get out there I may bend your ear and see if you have time to get out there and do some wheeling. 100%. Metal Masher is one of my favorite trails. I love the slick rock climbs and the view, and the 'high speed' sand run at the end.I think top of the world is definitely more challenging than metal masher. Not dangerous, but just lots of ledges that need the right lines.
Same. I’ve done it twice and that’s plenty. Beautiful, so not recommending against it. But if you’ve done it, you’ve done it.100%. Metal Masher is one of my favorite trails. I love the slick rock climbs and the view, and the 'high speed' sand run at the end.
Top of the World is amazing, but I've seen the view twice, and slogging up and down those broken ledges there and back isn't particularly interesting.
Fins & Things is another favorite. Not difficult, but slick rock is so fun and it makes for a nice calm day near town. It is usually our first stop in town to open peoples eyes to Moab terrain.Same. That and hells revenge are great intros to Moab.Fins & Things is another favorite. Not difficult, but slick rock is so fun and it makes for a nice calm day near town. It is usually our first stop in town to open peoples eyes to Moab terrain.
Hells Revenge is fun. I've never done Hells Gate though - and I am done taking the old exit that leads outside of Sand Flats. That's another broken rock ledge dumpster fire that isn't interesting. That and hells revenge are great intros to Moab.
I don’t think I’m familiar with that exit.Hells Revenge is fun. I've never done Hells Gate though - and I am done taking the old exit that leads outside of Sand Flats. That's another broken rock ledge dumpster fire that isn't interesting.
We had a JK in our group that knocked out a rear driveshaft on the exit, of all places, lol.
I'd consider Hells Gate now that I have long wheelbase.I don’t think I’m familiar with that exit.
Hells gate truly isn’t bad. I haven’t done escalator, but want to. Tipover challenge I have zero interest in.
And tipover is by passable, along with anything on that trail that’s hard.I'd consider Hells Gate now that I have long wheelbase.
When I went the only exit seemed to be out toward the outside of Sand Flats. It seems they have a new exit where you double back alongside the entrance.
Maybe it was always like that and I didnt realize.
Edit: According to Google you can turn out before tipover challenge and that takes you back to the new exit. This turnout before tipover and the new exit appear to have been done since I was there last.
I did that as recently as a couple years ago. When did it close?RIP Lions Back. That was thrilling
There is a baby lions back just past hells gate entrance but the OG lions back has been closed for many years as far as I know.I did that as recently as a couple years ago. When did it close?
