I'm not a fan of them either but Trail Recon seems to like them on all his Jeeps..

I do like the look of that KC style light bar, but not so much the LED light bar look. His JT has them up a lot higher than normal, I think he even mentions that in this video.

I like to be fully behind the lights to avoid glare. Also, if you lift your JT you run into clearance issues for some garages and parking areas. Add larger diameter tires and it’s worse, but roof mounted lights on top of that really limit clearance. Pass. Front bumper and grill bar lights are perfect.

Yeah I had that issue on my JK. I like the looks but that is why I am struggling.

Seems like most folks on the internet who install roof lights on their rigs do it just to complain about the noise lol

Not only do they create various noises, create issues parking in garages, et..

.If you like the look and are doing it solely for that purpose then I get it. We all add things for aesthetic reasons.

How often can you even use them? Not legal on the street in most states. And for those who actually off-road at night you can only use it if you are in the lead of the group. If not, You will blind those folks in front of you

I have in my JK. They do contribute to wind noise (though mine don't whistle), but only on really windy days at Interstate speeds. Otherwise, at least in the JK, it's not noticeable above normal noise level. Limiting clearance is obvious, but may not be a factor if you have other parts that also do so. As for use cases, I've found only three practical ones:

1. Fording deep water at night when your other lights are submerged.

2. In camp when you want extra light, such as during setup and teardown.

3. During day when road is very dusty severely limiting visibility and I've been warned someone is approaching the opposite direction like a bat out of hell: I turn on all lights so he knows I'm out here.

Driving at night off highway is much better with the headlights, fog lights and driving lights turned on, but overhead lights off. I used to have the overhead lights set further back, and they were much more practical for night driving. If that's you desired usage, set them back about three feet.
