For me, tint is not one of those things I'll go past legal limit on. It just gives them an immediate reason to pull you over if they really need one. Last thing you need is to get pulled over because of your tint, they find something else in the process, and now you're fighting two battles, or 3, or 4... all because you really wanted that slightly darker tint.

My advice: Don't give them a reason!
Exactly my perspective. I keep my tires under the fenders and my tint legal. When I had tuned cars, I always made sure any aftermarket exhaust I bought was tested and well below the legal noise limit. I keep my radio down. I'm boring. But why draw more attention?

With ceramic tint, dark doesn't matter. If you tint the windshield use the lightest tint possible. Ceramic blocks the same amount of heat no matter the shade of the tint.

My back window, we put an almost clear tint on for heat. The sides were darkened up so they are consistent and about 5% darker than legal due to medical reasons. I wouldn't go any darker. Trying to see when backing at night is challenging.

Good luck with your tint! Here's an example of what I had done. I'm really happy with the results I wasn't so sure about the windshield sunscreen when I first saw my JT, it looked a little big! So, naturally? I wanted to speak with the installer so I could ask a few questions. When I spoke with the installer they informed me that every vehicle has a individual computer program that chooses the specific size for your vehicle. Fortunately, It didnt take long to grow on me! It's a life saver in the sun!! It also helps at night with headlight glare from other vehicles. Now I wouldnt go without it!

Also if you went over stock tint what was the % of the tint you applied to achieve 5?
There are no rules for the back windows on trucks and SUVs. That's how we have panel vans without windows.

I'm really not sure. I took a screen shot of the picture of my JT off there website. It's called Bee Xtreme Window tinting they show alot of different examples of the cars they do. They did add tint to the back 3 windows over the factory tint though
Also if you went over stock tint what was the % of the tint you applied to achieve 5?

I personally hate it when owners put dark tint on their front windows. I never know if they're actually looking my way or at their phone or what.

While living in Tampa I used to do a daily 10 mile bike ride along the boardwalk. I stayed on the sidewalk for the 1/2 mile before I got to the actual boardwalk. Car with very heavy tint came slowly up a driveway to get into the street. I was like 10 feet away and moving fast and on the drivers side of the vehicle. Thought for sure he had to have seen me but I couldn't tell because of that stupid illegal tint. Obviously being on the sidewalk I had right of way.

Sure as hell the second I got in front of him he gunned it and drove right through me. Thankfully he had a low hood BMW so I went up onto the hood and into the windshield before I flew into Bayshore Blvd. Thank God it was around noon so I didn't have the morning and evening MacDill Air Force Base traffic to deal with. Dead meat for sure if dealing with that.

So I'm literally begging you not to get an illegal tint. It's not just about you.

I did 15% on the fronts and 35% on the rears over factory and they match almost perfectly.
Thanks for that . I was leaning toward 15% fronts and would rather leave the factory on the back. How is it at night /off-roading at night?

did you do the windshield and rear glass?

Question for anyone who knows, what is the rear glass factory?

I did 5% over the factory 35% rear... and then did 5% on the front 2 windows. its pretty much night time during the day inside the truck... AND very very hard to see outside the windows at night. I LOVE IT. my jeep and flex I did the same.

In case anyone stumbles across this thread from WA, the applicable laws are here:
https://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.430

Cliff Notes: 24% light transmission; 35% reflective; Sunscreen on windshield can extend 6" from top of windshield.

Also something I did not know is the tinting company is supposed to include their business name and attest the tinting meets applicable laws on a sticker to be applied to the door jamb.

I should go check the Audi in my driveway that's sitting with 20% and is dark AF at night (and this one doesn't have a rear camera).

Didn't touch the windshield, I did 35% on both rear passengers and the entire back glass. It matches the 15% on the two front windows perfect.

If you did 15% up front without anything on the rear I would assume that your fronts would be quiet a bit darker than the rear.

EDIT: Also, its great at night and offroading at night. I don't really have trouble. The only thing that bugs me is the reflection from my new stinger 10" screen on the rear window. It lights up my review mirror lol
