I don’t care if it means destroying a ~$300 wheel. I’d get on the shoulder with the hazards on and run it on the wheel until the shoulder opens up and I can pull WAY off the road.

Even then (pulled way off the road), I may wait for a wrecker, depending on the situation.

Many thoughts and prayers go out to all those we hear on the news who have experienced this very sad and tragic situation.

Over the last 5 years of stopping to help people on the side of the road for a variety of reasons, many couldn’t get over to the side and are stuck in the middle.

The worst ones are semi trucks, heavy haulers that, for what ever reason we’re in the middle lanes and not on the right side and their trucks just die or if on a hill and it’s super icy, are just stuck in the middle lane with no traction and the drivers coming in hot haven’t judged the spacing or timing to move out of the lane are all of a sudden amplifying a very dangerous situation.

Going to and from work, I come across many situations to help and it was imperative to install strobes, front, sides and back which have de-escalated the danger. I’ve had police, fire and highway maintenance workers impressed and comment on them and even video my strobes. They can’t believe a Good Samaritan would prepare like this.

My strobes grab,…no, they tackle your attention like nothing else. Most driver’s attention span is asleep at the wheel and they need stimulation to WAKE UP when a situation is up ahead.

Todays LED technology in strobes is impressive and next level. Getting strobes doesn’t mean that that’s all you have. These lights, if picked right for your needs can also be switched from strobe to flood mode to light up a scene or camp site with a simple override switch. So you can have the best of both worlds.

My lights are from strobe companies in the States who provide lighting to first responders and others. The newest and best lighting possible.

Having strobes is no guarantee of 100% personal security but if 90% of drivers are asleep or dicks only thinking of themselves, having intense strobes will take that 90% and move it to 10%
Stay safe with strobes when assisting others on the side of the road.

Illegal in Arkansas to have any sort of flashing light on your vehicle, unfortunately. I was contemplating rigging up a flasher to my spots, front and rear

What a shame. At the very least, wear a high vis vest. If a Good Samaritan was to use strobes, which does have the effect of raising the awareness level of other drivers for the purpose of saving lives, is the court actually going to fault you for that?

Is the life of a tow truck driver that has strobes more important than that of someone else stopping to help out?

Do you have a Good Samaritan law there?

No idea about a Good Samaritan law.
I do have a tazer so can do the “light show”.

We also have no vehicle inspections

Yea those are illegal in NJ as well. Totally ridiculous. You're allowed to have one amber strobe on the front and there's some goofy subline about where it's allowed to be. Shocked at the responses to this post, I just heard my wife talk about somebody getting hit and killed.
I think based on these responses I may change my choice selection. A messed up stock wheel I want to upgrade someday is better than dead is my new bottom line...

Thanks all!

I’ll add my take on this - it’s situational. If I need to change a tire on an Interstate or other highway “in the boonies” with minimal traffic and good off the shoulder access, and it’s daylight, I’ll change it. If traffic is heavier but there is an exit near, especially with a nearby parking lot or accessible open area to pull off, I’ll change it. If neither of those are the case, or if the tire is so damaged that moving the vehicle is an issue, I’ll contact one of our road services (we have AAA and a freebie addition to our insurance). At night, I always contact road service. I don’t have a “hard and fast” practice when it comes down to it - as I said, situational.

I have road triangles and these led strobe lights. I'll walk about 500 feet before my vehicle and put one about 50 to 75 feet apart all the way back to my vehicle.

Everyone is distracted today talking or texting on their cell phone.
If you can safely get off the highway that would be preferred.
