Looking to put 35x12.50xR17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on OEM Rubicon wheels. I've seen numerous posts here of folks that have done it with great success. Discount Tire won't let me even order them, despite stating on the site that they will put them on a 7.5 wheel. For those of you with this setup, what tire shop did you use? Any tips are appreciated.

I googled Nitto Ridge Grapplers and got like 150,000 hits.

Including Pep Boys, Summit Racing, townfairtire, and rough country.

Those same tires also come in 35x11.5x17, which are approved for the factory width wheels. I apologize if you already knew that.

Yes, of course. Sorry I wasn’t clear. I’ve been searching lots of places and most chains won’t install them. I’ve seen others rolling with them so I was hoping for a tip.

Discount tire is a sit sponsor. Maybe they can help you get what you're looking for.

Been there, done it. Discount Tire did it. I wouldn't recommend it as a permanent solution. Like spacers many get away with it fine, but it isn't ideal. If you're going to replace the rims with wider ones later then get the 12.5 now. If you aren't then get the 11.5 which is approved for the 7.5 rim.

Thanks for the info. What about the setup did you not like?

Best I can tell they don't have an 11.5 in the Ridge Grappler (for 17" wheels).

Sorry, just the nitto trail grappler comes in 11.5. I get those two confused.

When a rim is too narrow it makes the tire bulge out more in the middle of the tread as it's pinched in the bottom. True for cars, bikes, etc. It doesn't seat ideally inside the rim because of how it is pinched. It also impacts the handling.

Did you happen to call your local Discount Tire to see if they will order/install them, or were you trying to order via Discount Tire Direct? Only reason I ask is because the Discount Tire Direct site wouldn’t allow me to order 37s and send to my local store as the website stated they wouldn’t fit. I had to order them and ship them to my home and then bring them in to my local DT to get them mounted/balanced.

Thanks, I suspect this is what I will have to do. I was indeed trying to order online.

You may be able to call in the order and have the tires shipped to store instead of having them shipped to your home address. I was trying to catch a sale that ended on a Sunday and my local shop wasn’t open.

I think the 11.5s are the way to go if you can find a tire you like.

Though I've run wide tires on narrower rims and was able to compensate by running lower tire pressure. That helps to even out the otherwise center weighted tire wear in that situation.
