There is no way on god's green earth a crap tuner will EVER give a naturally aspirated motor a 30hp gain. TOTAL BS.
In the past, with older engine and tuning tech, I would completely agree. However, today’s engines are so detuned from the factory, 30hp is about average. The 2015-2017 Mustang 5.0 averages about 45-50 RWHP with a tuner and cold air intake...So, I can believe +30/27. :like:

The video I referenced in my post above showed (at 15 minutes into it) almost a second (0.94 sec) longer 0-60 time with the bigger tires (37s) and that is a very noticeable loss in power. They also showed that the CAI and AFE rock basher exhaust brought back the performance for the most part (0.78 sec improvement with the 37s). There was still a loss of 0.16 sec compared to stock. I expect that 40s would be noticeably more extreme than 37s, for average weight tires in those sizes. With the JKUs, my daughter's Sport S with the lighter, street tread tires gave 1-2 mpg better than my Rubicon with KM's, both having 3.73 and automatics.

I bought an extra set of JT Sport wheels and tires, so have 9 of the "all terrain" Bridgestones to wear out, sell, whatever. I have a set of Falken Wildpeak AT3W on JK Recon wheels that should also fit. The Falkens are probably 12 lb. heavier per tire, and their tread pattern might also give lower mpg. The mpg losses should correlate to loss of acceleration as well.

I just weighed a stock Sport wheel with Bridgestone AT that comes on the max tow JT. To the level of accuracy of an old analog bathroom scale, 57 lb, which makes sense if the wheel is 23 lb. and the tire 34, as Discount Tire shows for some SL rated tires in that size. That tire spec's at 31.5". The Falken 235-80-17 E weigh 49 lb and are 31.8". The 255 size KM's that came on my JK spec at 47 lb, 32.1" iirc. Putting extra tire weight farther from the center of the wheel increases inertia, not just unsprung weight.

@Alabama Mud Machine I'm curious to know what happens to the performance as well. When my 35's wear out I'm considering 37's if I only lose a small amount of performance and MPGs. I guess it all comes down to tire weight and wheel weight. I'd keep my stock wheels so for me tire weight. Be the first time I've considered going above 35's on a jeep without a regear, but I feel like mine with Max tow can handle it. This should be good stuff for others considering this as well.

These are the ones I'm considering when I go to a 37", 72lbs a pc vs my BFG 315 70 17 KO2s which weigh 63lbs. Roughly a 36lb increase in weight for the whole vehicle. A couple local guys run them on their Tacoma's and love them.

I ended up going with Kumho Road Venture MT KL71’s in 37x13.50r20 (E-rated). They are 83 lbs each. So, 19 lbs more than the factory Falken WP M/T 285/70r17’s (63.3 lbs). The stock wheels are 23-24 lbs each, and my 20x10 -24 offsets are 34 lbs each. So, I’m only gaining about 30 lbs per corner in unsprung weight over stock. Rotating mass is 120 lbs extra.

Hoping today will be an early day, and I can go get them mounted & balanced and put on. If not, probably tomorrow. I will keep all my threads updated.

I highly recommend the Kumho KL71 tires. My old man has been driving on them for years in his 2008 Cummins 2500 in 35x12.50r17 (E-rated), and he loves them. He even put a set on his 96 Bronco XLT 351W. They’re quiet, ride excellent, handle well, and last really well. Very high-quality tire for the money. :like:

Contact Don @ Discount Tire here on the forum through private message (tell him I sent you). He’s the one who hooked me up with mine. Got a hell of a price! So good, that I couldn’t pass it up, and didn’t buy the Gladiator X Comps in 37x13.50r20 that I originally set out to buy.

I wonder if he can get me a better price on the Kanati's I'm looking at.

Thank you for the shout out. I'm looking forward to seeing your new tires mounted on your Gladiator.

We appreciate your business and will continue to work hard in the future to earn it.
