Tire weight question

I'm presently running 37x12.50r17 Kanati Trail Hogs with 4.88 gearing. They weigh about 72lbs. I'm gonna get some Mts for the summer and was wondering what kind of impact a heavier tire would have with 4.88 gears. I have it whittled down to 37x13.50r17 Toyo Open Country MTs (94lbs); 37x13.50r17 Maaxis Razr MTs (82lbs); or 37x12.50r17 Kanati Mud Hogs (72lbs). I think I like the Toyo best but I'd be adding 22lbs per corner. Just wondering how that might impact my ride. Thx!

First, why the MT's? Are you going to be doing a lot of Mudding? MT's have the least favorable ride quality due to the aggressive tread (and noisy). AT's probably would be more suitable for snow/ice/slush. and considering its a wider tire, do you have rims with suitable offset?

I heavier tire will negatively impact acceleration & braking along with on-road ride. But, will you really notice it going to a tire that is 10 lbs heavier? Probably not. 22 lbs heavier? Maybe, maybe not.

Anyhow, I know you have your choices narrowed down, but the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT is worth a look. It is a very aggressive tire for an AT, has excellent road manners and it weighs 82 lbs.

I live in Wisconsin. My Kanati Trail Hogs love the snow. They will remain my winter tire. I run em on some Black Rhinos. I found a brand new set of gun metal Rock Trim rims for $500 that I couldn't resist. I'm gonna throw some Mts on em for the summer months here. Why? Cuz I like em - always have... I like the noise and the ride - and love the aggressive look. My wife and I also have a long trip planned to Moab this spring and Mts would be fun to have for that. The off set on the rock trip rim I'll be putting em on should be sufficient for a wider tire. My Trail Hogs are 12.5 and do great with a 0 offset. Mostly I'm just curious to know how 20lbs of added weight per corner will feel.

Thx! Those are great tires. I ran em on a Dodge Ram I had a few years ago.

I would also add that the impact will also depend on what other fortifications you've made. Looks like you've already taken care of the gearing. How about the track bar and steering stabilizer? If the front end has been mechanically upgraded, then I think you'll be fine with the exception of the aforementioned braking/acceleration.

Looks like you are as set as you can be without opening up the money bag :) Just keep an eye on things like excessive play or wear in the front end as you put miles on it. Heavier wheels and tires can put a strain on the joints and bushings of all the related suspension components.

Yes. When you start pushing 120+ a corner hydro assist, ball joints, tie rod ends (aluminum tie rod)…
hydro assist is going to pull a lot of the strain off the drag link and sector shaft…. Yes the sector shaft is significantly larger than previous Jeep models but 120-130 is starting to be a lot.

I would also toss on a sector shaft brace. I have steer smarts - but WITHOUT the bearing. The bearings on all the braces seem to have issues and not last long. But I installed the brace anyway simply to add some steel to the system.

I would also consider a big brake kit - larger rotors and calipers that some here have installed. I can't remember the company name - power stop or something maybe? Anyway, you're starting to add a lot of weight. I am willing to bet it will be noticeable in breaking unless you upgrade in that area a little. Ball joint life is going to suffer as well.
