To diesel or to 24

Just dealing on a diesel right now. It’s being shipped currently. They are not moving on the price AT all. Salesman said in their morning meeting that they are to stick to full retail as the diesel is not being made anymore. Has me raked over the coals on this. For how much truth there is to it, he says I was the first one to inquire about it over a month ago, while it was still at the factory. After me, there are 4 others waiting to buy it. So he says.
not really sure what to do at this point. I most certainly don’t want the ’24.

You should look at placing an order for one. I put an order in last week and they were willing to work with me on price. They even told me any incentives going on at the time of delivery will also apply to the price.

I had a 20 JT rubicon manual. Put 35s on it and it became a dog. My son came home with a wrangler diesel and after driving it.. I went and found a new 21 JT diesel overland on the lot, traded for it and never looked back. Put my 35s on it, a mopar 2in lift with an LoD bumper/winch. Nothing elaborate. I have 46k on it now.. rock crawl, tow and drive it hard. (Don't forget you get a better trans with it too.) Never an issue. As for the fuel pump.. other vehicles have the same pump. Blame Bosch. They fail when the pump loses pressure from lift pump and allows the pumps pistons to rotate .. (out of fuel, lift pump failure, fuel frozen.. etc) .. we have Dodge RAMs with ecoDiesel at work.. one recently failed a week after the in tank lift pump failed. It had 130k on it and FCA warranted it and replaced the fuel system and pump with a current unit... Or, find a good used 3.6 and send it to AMW for a 505 hemi upgrade ;-)

Get your order in if you can. I sold my EcoD weeks ago and I still have folks following up at full asking price to see if the seller backed out. Or as @iree75 mentioned, grab a higher mile 3.6 Rubi for mid 30's (vast quantities exist on the market) and send it straight out for he hemi swap and be at or below MSRP on a ordered 23' well equipped EcoD. This is what we'll eventually do if the 4xe comes out in 25. I know folks will be dumping their 3.6 Rubis for high 20's by then.

Grabbing a 24 right now is really a no-win situation.

I’m after the daily mileage a diesel gets. I’m not really looking to do a hemi swap in anything. I do like to modify things a lot, but hoping with a flashed ECU and other things, I can maintain good mileage.
The dealer has about 2200 in extras they add on. I told him I’d probably take it if they got rid of all that. Things like mud flaps, key fob warranty, and some kind of theft security thing. I think it’s etched glass and parts. Don’t care for any of that.

So, just tried to order one at a local dealer that we bought our wrangler from. They say it took 8 months to get a diesel sport in stock. They are worried that if I put in an order, it may take months to get in, if they get it at all. So they are advising me to buy the other one, even though it’s full retail. It’s at a completely different dealership 6 hours away, so they have no skin in the game to send me elsewhere. I guess if I want certain options, I have no choice to get it. ?‍

You can't order a 2023 diesel anymore-- you'll have to either find one on a lot or dealer trade for one, if your dealer will do that, some do, some don't

I personally own a '21 JTRD and love it and think that the enigne is better than all the new '24 options available

Dealers are taking notes and will probably marking up the diesels. Ain't selling mine anytime soon. The torque down low is just too good. Sometimes forgetting that I'm in 2H on the trails.
