random question - are tonneau covers supposed to keep water out of the bed? including soft ones like the one we can order from the factory (which I think I read somewhere is manufactured by BedRug? is that right?)

EDIT: bestop not bedrug
The soft one is new from Bestop so we don't have any info on it aside from what's at auto shows. The hard trifold will most likely be a Bakflip MX4. I have no idea who'll make the soft trifold.
hmm... just found this... on here: https://colminnxracks.com/topper-racks
This site is down for me. Anyone else?

Ok i do have some more thoughts for the modular version which i will post later. Also something to remember These designs replace the front cab as well so that it can be open to the back.

In the meantime I figured i will throw this one out there. This is my AMC Gremlin X inspired version.

Good point... I will do that.
ALSO, BedRug does not make tonneau covers, and IMO, if ANY manufacturer makes a tonneau that is NOT waterproof or at a minimum "Very Water Resistant," YOU should NOT consider buying it ! Might as well just go get a queen size SHEET from your closet and tape it in place ! The BEST Covers are gonna be the Solid Fiberglass type materials - no folds, no cracks, "no drips, no errors" ! They close over the bed rails MUCH like a CAP would SEAL, on the same ! If you want or need "peace of mind," go with any of the top 3 makers - i.e.; such as A.R.E., Leer or SnugTop . . . !? You'll pay a bit more, but in the LONG Haul you will find that "peace of mind" and look good down the highway, doing it ! I can attest - My A.R.E. CAP for my 1500 was on within 3 weeks of ownership and stayed on for 13 1/2 years; well minus 1 refit of new foam seal as suggested by manufacturer ! I did that in, ?, about year 7 (2003 > 2015).
