Just to be silly, I hear by rumor, that "everywhere" outside any city limits (in Australia) is Beautiful "overlanding destination" !

random question - are tonneau covers supposed to keep water out of the bed? including soft ones like the one we can order from the factory (which I think I read somewhere is manufactured by BedRug? is that right?)

Yes! But with a soft top that clips to the frame and snaps/slides into a bed rail like a Jeep softtop ..... at least on the TJ I had, where the "fin" gets pressured into the ridge and makes the soft top taught.

The guy with the beard in the Africa photo outside the dinning tent is my buddy. My day job does not allow facial hair, unfortunately, so the best I get is a 3-5 day growth while on some camping trip .

i thought bestop made it, but that's probably wrong........i too would like to know who makes the factory tonneau cover.

I called Bestop some time ago about the hard trifold tonneau cover and they would not even tell me if they were going to be the supplier of that tonneau, very strange call. It’s a mystery if it will keep water out or not. And as you may have noticed Jeep has not sent out a picture of that tonneau nor of the rear bumper side steps. But they have posted signs at shows saying that the Gladiators displayed had the tonneau and the bumper steps on them and neither were on them. So I ain’t got no clue there, sorry. It’s a GDQ: good damn question

Ok i do have some more thoughts for the modular version which i will post later. Also something to remember These designs replace the front cab as well so that it can be open to the back.

In the meantime I figured i will throw this one out there. This is my AMC Gremlin X inspired version.
