Tow capacity?

I'm stumped,

I have a 2023 gladiator sport with the tow package (not max tow). In my owners manual it says tow capacity for a sport and auto is 4500lbs. No mention of tow package (not max tow)

In the 2022 owners manual it says tow capacity for a sport/auto/tow package(not max tow) is 6000lbs.

So what is my tow capacity 4500 or 6000?

This makes no sense since 2023 and 2022 are identical models.

I am thinking, if you have the tow package it is 6000. They just left that configuration off of the chart. The 4500 would be if you had the ball installed in the bumper. Having the tow package gets you the class 3 hitch. Max tow gets the complete package like axles, cooling system. Just my guess.

That's my understanding also. Just weird it's not listed. There is other parts missing from the 2023 manual also. The 2022 is more in depth on everything. Very weird maybe a cost savings move due to the 2024 refresh

What does your door sticker say?

I guess that really only tells you the gross weight .

Door sticker will tell you your gcwr, subtract your gvwr weight, that's what you're rated for legally.

My sticker shows the gvwr but does not show the gcwr.

The sport auto has a max tongue weight of 450.
The sport auto with tow package bumps it up to 600.

I did not look at the max tow tongue weight is. Probably 600 as well.

Yeah there is nothing on the sticker for towing info. Just payload and gvwr. Nothing noted for gcwr

make a jeep account and search your VIN number. It will tell you if you have the tow package(probably not and it was added after delivery).

It has the trailer tow package (bigger alt, cooling etc) added from the factory, its on my window sticker, and when run vin

In that case, the manual says 4,500lbs. And yes, it makes no sense since it has the same equipment as a 2022 but for some reason they pulled that line item off the owner's manual.

That 6000lbs is the max rating for your hitch. Your actual truck is 4500. They tend to put on higher rated hitches that way your never near max on it. For reference my Mojave came with a class IV hitch and the max tow package. the hitch is rated for 10k the truck is rated for 6k. This is also usually to get decent tongue weight rating as well. since most trailers we will end up towing will be single axle and have lots of leverage to bear on the hitch itself. Alot of people can easily exceed tongue weight well before tow capacity. especially if the trailer is loaded wrong.

safety. laws and rules change, even when equipment doesn't. Our trucks can easily pull well over 10k with the right hitch but liability of the manufacturer and DOT rules have limits in place to cover ass. I'm pretty sure the legal max of the midsize pickup segment is like 8k. So if rules change and it states idk, any vehicle over 4800lbs with an axle rating under 18k has a max legal capacity of 5k lbs. Just hypothetical, but any vehicle made before that rule would be 6k capable, after wouldn't. Even tho the hardware is the same. if ya get the idea.
