I have to ask what part of New Mexico? We retired to Western New Mexico (Catron County) also in 2023, and I’m just curious. Nice looking setup…
I'm about 15 miles north of Ruidoso. Loma Grande area. We really like it here. It gets cold 🥶 but summers are great. Usually never above 90. Since we are at over 7,000 it is quite breezy. We live on 18 acres in the middle of Lincoln Forest.

Fires get too close for comfort last year?

That‘s a great area, in the Sacramento Mountains. Used to have relatives in Capitan.

We had to evacuate last year but the fire staid four miles south. Wondering what this year's will bring.

It's a beautiful area. I was just in Capitan at the hardware store.

Needed to get my cabin building materials from home in CA to our desert property so the mojave had to play work truck. 12'x16' cabin hauled 600 miles with a JT? Send it. Ended up a little north of the tow rating at 8140lbs in the trailer but she handled it just fine. The little V6 would even maintain 65mph up tehachapi grade, ~4k' of elevation gain in 20 miles. Aside from the 8 mpg it was flawless. Even the 20 miles of washboard desert road wasn't bad. And the wife and I got the cabin framed and weather tight in 5 days. Not bad for a 2 person crew with no framing experience. And the wife doesn't do heights so everything from the loft up was solo. Shoutout to @Metalcloak, your 3.5" springs handled an overloaded trailer like a champion.

Wow nice achievement! What was your tongue weight? I have one of those scales built into the hitch to see. I would do a city pull at lbs 8500 but more then that, I'd be scared lol.

No scale but I'd guess between 800-900lbs based on squat vs known weights I've put in the bed.

The worry on this side is bending the frame on a hard dip but if your real easy and very carful you can avoid that. How far did you have to go on this pull?

It's 575 miles from our house to our property, just around the corner. The last 18 miles of wash board dirt road were the worst part but even there it seemed to handle it fine.

Question, how the winds where the cabin is? I noticed the foundation and I didn't see or noticed if the cabin is secure to the ground other than gravity on the deck blocks. There are straps that secure the foundation to the ground using ground screws. Something like this may help secure the cabin and help prevent uplift. Just a way to protect your investment and for peace of mind. A couple on each side I think would help. Hopefully this isn't unwanted advice but from Jeep to Jeep, Cabin to Cabin enthusiast, I thought I'd share as I explored options before I settled for a traditional post and beam foundation with deep footings.

Winds aren't bad and typically come from the back side which would cause downloaded with the single pitch roof but I may add a couple ground screws to be safe. I'm definitely not one to get offended by friendly constructive criticism so no worries.

Cool. These ground screws are designed to be driven into the ground by a high power torque wrench. If your ground is rocky like ours then they may not work.

Ratings are suggestions not mandates. Guess what happens when I carry a 70lb window, tools to install it, and my 260lb ass 12' up a 300lb rated ladder? Nothing.
People will attack with threats of insurance being voided and arrests by DOT. They won’t be able to cite any documented examples, but they know they’re out there :)

Obviously if doing this work daily a bigger truck would make sense, but as a fellow Mojave driver typing this with a trailer attached I say props to you and the whole assembly crew :)
