TPMS initially working on set of wheels then all 4 stopped working same day?

I recently put on a set of Rubicon wheels/tires I bought from a guy.
They included the TPMS sensors and my understanding is these things automatically register so you just put em on and go.
After installing, I was getting readings from all 4 corners so thought everything was fine.
20 minutes or so into the second drive that same day, all 4 stopped reporting.
Wheels came off a 22 gladiator and owner only put about 3k miles on them.
So I doubt the batteries are dead.
What could cause this? Anything I can do to reset or have the car re-register the sensors?

Thanks

What year is your truck?
TPMS part numbers split around June 2021.

Mine is a 2021. Dang that would just be my luck. Do you know if that part change made them incompatible?

This is correct. If your JT was produced after 6/21, then they should be fine and automatically register to the truck. I am guessing a TPMS swap is in your future.

Yes the 2 part numbers are not compatible. I believe the build date cutoff is around June 10 2021.

Do you have remote start? If so, does it work from a fair distance?
You said all 4 quit so likely not related...........

Do check the door jamb sticker for your build date. You'll see a MDH on one of the stickers - that's the MONTH, DAY (of the month) and HOUR (of that day)

061522 means June 15th, 10pm

Build date is September 2020.

Yes. I have remote start and it works from pretty far away.

Luckily, I still have my original wheels so I suppose I could have everything swapped.
That would just be a pain in the arse and money I didn't want to spend to dismount, remount, balance 8 wheels.

I may just ignore the error until I need tires and deal with it in a few years if the parts are indeed incompatible.

I hate that manufacturers do this crap. Fine if you build a better sensor but at least make the receiver compatible with existing versions, c'mon.

On the bright side the wheels/tires look freakin sweet!

I assume you bought the wheels - tires already mounted - ready to go and you did the install yourself.
Otherwise, technically a shop can't do "anything that causes TPMS to not function".

Your truck is an early 2021 so yeah, unfortunately anything after about June of 2021 won't work.

I also don't get the lack of backwards compatibility.

Swapping TPMS sensors does not require dismount/remount/balance of the tires. Theyll pop the bead of your old wheels, retreive the sensors, and do the same to get them into your new wheels. Once the new sensors are in, they just reinflate and reinstall back onto the Jeep. Tire isnt dismounted completely, so no need for the rebalance. Its less than an hours worth of work. Id be surprised if you got charged you more than 100 bucks to get it all squared away.

The old wheels can stay with the bead popped so the next owner can put whatever sensors they want in them, the shop can reinflate them without sensors (in this case I MIGHT recommend a rebalance due to the missing sensor mass), or swap the "wrong" sensors into your old wheels and resell.

Excellent. Didn't realize it could be done without dismounting the tire. I'll call around some shops. Great info. Thanks!

I was told $25/wheel to replace. So - sounds spot-on based on what one shop told me a while back.

He's right on the money - break the outside bead, press tire down, you have access. Inner bead can remain untouched. Since the weight isn't changing and the tire isn't rotated at all on the wheel - you're good to go.

I just went through this exact scenario and chose to get 4 extra sensors from rockauto for the new wheels. Cost around $100 for 4 new tpms and now I have an extra set of wheels/tires with the proper sensors installed as spares. If you have a discount tire around, I would highly recommend them for this work.

Sorry the TPMS didn't work with your model year, I second giving Discount Tire a call to swap them out. Have used them for decades with never a problem. I use the one in Sanford on 17-92, Monte is the manager, real good guy.

Agreed with the above. I bought new TPMS sensors for my new wheels and tires. I brought in the wheels, tires, and new TPMS sensors to Discount Tire and they mounted, balanced, and put in the sensors for $100. Not bad considering none of the items were purchased through them.
