I had a 4200LB (dry weight) camper I towed with my 21 Diesel Gladiator and it towed incredibly well. And I was coming from a Ram 1500 with the 5.7...traded the diesel Gladiator and picked up a 22 Overland with the 3.6...long story short, sold the camper (was not a fan of towing with it)
So, if towing...go diesel!

The brakes have been great in my Mojave, even with 37’s. I have never towed with my Gladiator, but it’s gutless enough just normal driving. Hell, it weighs as much as a 1/2 ton, it NEEDS more power in my opinion. I wouldn’t buy a 1/2 ton with a V6 or 4 banger, and I wouldn’t buy a Gladiator with a V6 if a V8 was available.

After owning the diesel gladiator for 4 years and currently driving a 24 max tow sport with the roll up(love em lol) I have never felt it is under powered. 4:10 gears with ZF feels really good and i have alot of peep in the step. As much as i want the 5.7 Hemi option i feel perfectly fine with the gutless 3.6 (Its not really gutless)

Would the cost of trade/switching cars be less than paying that to AMW4x4 and getting you a brand-new 5.7 HEMI? (Smallest, of course, 6.4, 400, 600, 800, and even>=1k poneys are valid choices)

Remember when 120HP F-150's towed campers and boats which weighed twice as much?
Yea but these days everyone has their tri axle toy haulers that they need to drag up the Ike Gauntlet with the cruise set at 75 MPH at one gear below overdrive :CWL:

I'm being partially sarcastic. I don't love the Jeep towing performance, but it 'does the job' when it needs to. I'm usually loaded below 2,500 pounds and that's nothing for this truck. If I had to move my sub compact tractor on a borrowed tandem axle trailer often - I'd probably find something else.

For some reason people can't differentiate between a pleasant towing experience and simply getting where you're going.

My Gladiator has never failed to get where it was going while towing my camper.

My Gladiator has never once delivered a pleasant, worry free experience maintaining speed, merging and passing and lane changing at will while towing my camper.

People who say their Gladiator tows fine, sound just like the guys on the internet claiming their 89 F250 with a 300 6 tows fine.

Run through Atlanta or Chicago at 6pm towing your load and tell me you had an easy time.
Thank you for the answer that explains it all. You may have just broke the internet lol

Sounds like you're more to blame than Jeep for buying a midsize truck when you needed a full size 🤷
I bought the truck based on the towing information provided by Jeep. So yes, I blame Jeep.

That's, really, the problem with quantifying an "experience".

I suspect a lot of these guys have never towed with something bigger, have no idea what their missing, and ignorance is bliss.

Or, maybe they do know, and they're ok with it.

I still tow my camper with my Gladiator, I bought them as a pair to do just that. When I don't have to, I tow with my Ram 2500, and when I really tow, I use my F450.

I just know, I'm going to have to pick a lane and sit in it. I'm going to lock it in 6th and do 65. I'm going to listen to that little 6 sing up any hill at 3800 rpm. I'm going to be watching my oil temps. I am not going to change lanes whenever I want, I'm going to have to plan my merges...

Because you're trying to keep the rpms down too much. The v6 doesn't make peak torque until 4400rpms and peak hp at 6200. Let it sing up the hill at 5800 rpm and you can pass, merge, change lanes, etc no problem. If anybody was expecting the JT to tow like a 2500 or an F450 they are retarded. If it had a v8 you could happily drive it like you do, but it had a high strung v6. Drive it like you want all 285hp and it's way better than people make it out to be. Driven as you describe it doesn't even break 200hp at the crank. Driven that way you've got 160hp pulling a 5k+lb truck and a trailer uphill and you wonder why it's underwhelming?
