Hey gang,
I personally like brainstorming ideas to carry water on longer trips. I've previously shared my water tank setup in this thread when I had an "open bed" setup = 19.9 gal here. Now that I have a Scout Tuktut camper in the bed I wanted another 10 gal+ tank storage and luckily Trail'd just released their 14 gal spare tire tank. Let me address the elephant in the room right now, I'm taking a risk not running a spare tire. I've tried to hedge my bets by purchasing a Glue Tread kit as I'm already running an ARB on-board compressor. While this isn't a long term solution, I'm hoping it's enough to get me rolling again in case of emergency. I'm going to look into a spare tire carrier whether it's a hitch mount or full bumper replacement. It's a big ask, but can we please keep this thread focused on the tank itself? Performance, longevity, plumbing ideas, how you're using it... etc. I've installed the tank and I'm going to run it... now let's talk about it.
I bought the Boondocker on pre-sale a couple months ago and saved a little bit of cash, but it's currently retailing for $425 as of 7/24/24.
In terms of mounting, I also got the option metal mounting ring to make sure I was being as secure as possible. Install is straight forward, drop the tire and raise the tank. I still have the OEM rear bumper and I've used an old template for the reflectors to replace them with metal plates. The passenger side is the "fill" and the driver side is the hook up for expelling the water via pump. I bought all my parts on Amazon to complete the build.
