So, with the new Overland mention by Jay, I'm allowing that I might not have to get a Rubicon for my goals... but that 3.73 ratio frustrates me (sans Diesel) as I plan to tow and the 3.73 in my current JKU doesn't always like my 3500 lb trailer (specifically when going up and over mountains or even big hills.)

Are many of you folks planning to tow? What would you like to see improved for towing purposes?

  • I'd like a decent ratio (probably 4:10 is fine)
  • Extendable side-mirrors
  • Built-in trailer brake controller
I don't tow a ton so wonder if there is more worth exploring in the JT.

I'm good with 3:73s behind a diesel.
Extendable side mirrors and brake controller please.
HD tranny cooler too.

That's what I thought too, but have separated base camp zero times. Always worried I'll come back and all my stuff ripped off.

But it is nice to have everything stored and ready to go camp in a moments notice.

I'll be towing a ~3800 pound (loaded) Forest River Wolf pup every other weekend from early may to Columbus day with mine. I'd like to see integrated brake control and a transmission cooler in the tow package.

Yes! I've been waiting for a pickup from Jeep for a long time and towing is one of the reasons! I've been a big Jeep fan for years, our family has owned probably 10+ Jeeps over the years (all types!) and we currently have 2 Jeeps in our household ('12 Jeep GC Limited, 04 Jeep Wrangler TJ Rubicon).

We purchased a SUV towable travel trailer earlier this year and we love to go RV camping towing with the GC and even though we don't expect heavy off-roading while towing I love the idea of dropping a base camp somewhere and then being able to detach and explore off-roading and sightseeing in the surrounding areas.

The Grand Cherokee is doing an admirable job BUT we are close to the towing limit for the 12 (5000lbs) (the 14 increased by 1500 pounds in towing capacity) so I'd like to move up to the purported 6500lb rating of the Jeep pickup as well as gain some better storage options for our travels and carrying toys (SUPs, kayaks/canoes, bikes, etc.)

Also excited about possibly having the truck be an overlanding capable unit by itself...thinking a good bed rack with a RTT mounted would be a super overlanding platform.

I wish the truck offering had been more like my beloved 70s J2000 pickup (first truck)...but the quad cab Scrambler/Gladiator continues to grow on me and the ability to still be able to take off the top makes it a bridge between my desire to have a Wrangler and a pick up.

Anxiously awaiting what the real deal is as far as towing options and capabilities!!

I have a M101A2 mil trailer I pull and a pontoon, looking forward to the added towing capacity. I’m hoping for a HD transmission cooler. Towing mirrors would help a lot.

Similar size RV, but a Winnebago Drop. Integrated brake controller and tranny cooler would be a must. It would also be nice if the backup camera field of view captures the hitch so I can line up the trailer without getting out of the jeep 5 times when hooking up.

Only thing I plan on towing would be an enclosed snowmobile trailer, but that wont be for a while as the JT will be taking a big hit to the wallet so the snowmobiles will have to wait a year or two.

I think like many others, the JT will replace my offroad trailer, so I'll likely only tow on rare occasions. Most home projects can likely fit in the bed, so even my 4x8 utility trailer will likely be rarely used. But, I do hope that a towing package actually comes with an auxiliary engine or trans cooler, deeper gears and a 7-pin harness... it's a light duty truck, so I wouldn't expect a dedicated brake controller but that would be nice as an option.
