I had been chasing a similar noise for years, I finally got resolution a couple of weeks ago. See here for an explanation:

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...ding-clunking-noise-thread.65069/post-1403550

Earlier in that thread I also posted a video of the noise.

tl;dr - it's the bolts where the transmission cross member and the fuel skid come together (for my fix)
OHJeeper, Austin, you are the man! I crawled under and tightened any bolt I could ratchet. I pulled it out of the garage and still had the noise. Brought it back into the garage and removed the cross member/skid plate and bingo, the noise was gone. I added a 7/16" washer between the crossmember and a slab of rubber between the fuel tank skid plate to help isolate and reassemble. No more noise! Thank you very much, let me know where you are in Ohio and if I pass through there, I'll buy you a drink.

Thank you all for your input. I learned a few things along the way, even some PM for the pinion bearing. This started after I went out on the AOAA trails (video) so I could have made contact and loosened something up.

That's great to hear! Chassis noises are the bane of my existence, always good when someone else can benefit from my headaches :)

If you're near Columbus give me a shout - no need to buy, but I'm always down for a beer with a fellow Jeeper!

Thanks to Ruscopin and OHJeeper. I just got done fixing mine. I pulled the brace off and pulled out and into my driveway. No noise whatsoever. I added washers between frame and brace at the 4 bolt locations and then used two sheets of rubber garage door bottom weatherstripping between brace and tank skid plate.

I will take it soon and make sure the new mounting configuration is quiet now and if not will update this post but I should be good.

There's no telling how much time and money was saved thanks to you guys. Well done!:clap::clap::clap:

I have been thinking it might be skid plate issues since my trip to Sand Hallow required a whole bunch of skid plate use. May have to remove and install some spacers (washers).
