Sorry for the long read. But I couldn't find anything by searching

Took my 2023 Rubicon Automatic out for a day of wheeling today. Tried climbing a fairly steep hill with some off camber to it. Had the TC in 4lo, auto trans in manual mode M1. Got to a point when the Jeep stopped pulling, like it lost traction. I immediately hit the brakes. Information screen stated something like "transmission not in correct gear shift into park" (Check engine light was on also) I shifted into park and then the transmission would not come out of park. I had to put the TC into neutral, slowly back down till the jeep was fairly level. Shut it off, and opened the door. Waited a minute, started it again. Everything worked. Pulled up to the same spot. Same thing again. This time I had someone pull me to the top.

A Friend had a code reader. The codes were:

P1D90
P1D95
P1D96
P1D99

From what I read online, all the codes are transmission codes for bad clutches and mismatched input and output speeds.

Once I got it level ground Jeep seemed to be fine. Check engine light stayed on. I was 3 hours from home. Drive it home. Stopped for dinner. Come out and the check engine light was out. Jeep ran fine all the way home.

Going to the dealer Monday (only 6500 miles).

Any ideas?

Don't clear the codes so that the dealer can read them.

I wonder if the fluid could be a little low and in that off camber/ steep incline situation the pick up couldn't get enough fluid into the pump. These are notorious for being incorrectly filled from the factory.

I replaced the trans pan with an aftermarket pan (PPE). I refilled it per the instructions. And checked it twice. It is as fill as I can get it (it overflows out the fill hole).

But I will recheck it in the morning.

Was there a reason for changing the pan? Just curious. I can see possible issues with the dealer about this.

I hope the instructions included checking and topping off while it's running and warm.

A dipstick would be a nice item to have.

Did you use Mopar 8/9 speed transmission fluid?
