off-roading a steep trail the other day and smelled something sweet. Couldn’t find any leaks until I crawled u see this evening and found this. Right around the transmission this is. One little line of fluid. I’m guessing antifreeze?

Most likely without being able to trace it to the source. Usually the sweet smell gives it away.

The coolant is a orange-violet color not green in all JL and JT vehicles.

Feel it - is it perhaps a grease flung out from that joint?
It's not antifreeze and it doesn't look much like transmission fluid.

What would you assume it would be then?

It is a little on the gooey side. It’s hard to reach up in there. What would cause it? And what joint would have grease in it like that? Thank you

That's way too thick to be coolant, I agree that it's likely grease being flung out of the driveshaft joint. It's the right color, consistency, and location for that.

Do you have a lift? Steep hill could have put the driveshaft at an angle like a lift kit will do and caused grease to slowly exit the boot. The pic you posted shows what looks like grease that has been there a while, not new.

Possibly something organic (plant, reptile or insect based) you picked up on the trail? In South Florida we pick up all kinds of stuff in the swamp / flats.

Yeah a Clayton 2.5 which is really a 3.5. Pretty extreme I think
