can't we just get a big ass metal tool box and bolt it into the bed? I'm not transporting goldfish that need climate control and darkened tranquil spaces. I guess for overland , yeah I want a clean look. But for my window crank sport it's definitely got a bed box. Any hunting equipments are normally hung on racks in the window in a pick up, but I guess we got shamed out of that now too and we are hiding our stuff in a locking plastic box under the backseat to be lifestyle appropriate. On second thought, perhaps I will put pics of PLYWOOD in there. Lol. It's late and I'm not that serious...

Is the box water proof ? or just water resistant ? does it float if dropped in a pool of water, if so, how much weight can it hold before it sinks ?

Just remember that it bolts to the floor of the truck with 4 bolts. So when you remove those 4 bolts then you are left with 4 holes in the bottom of the case. So you might want to think twice before you throw it into a pool to see if it floats or not. May not want to have a shotgun in the case before you try this out. Happy swimming to go fetch it from the bottom.

Jake, pretty sure replacement boxes can be predrilled to fit the same mounting locations. If not it's pretty easy to do. Pretty sure that's the plan as it wouldnt be secure from theft if someone could reach in and lift it out.

Thanks for the info. I plan to get a Sport model and I plan to try to order the trail rail system which includes the box with the locking lids on it. Yes I know that the build site shows that this is not available on a base Sport model. But I asked Jeep about this and a guy from Jeep said that I would be able to get the trail rail system on all trim levels even though that is not what the build site shows. We shall see. I cross fingers and wait for pricing and then I wait some more.

Similar deal for me, Sport S with a few options. I really want the flat floor for the dog so the box isn't an issue for me. Ill probably drill into one of my aluminum double gun cases to mount for hunting trips. But I do want the lined bed..probably will go aftermarket for that as well due to cost. Perhaps some folks will dump some options off JTs they purchase off the lot with boxes, and tonneau covers they do not want. I'd definitely snatch one that way, along with all the Rubicon take offs I can find. Pricing is really going to dictate what direction I go in as far as options.

Personally, water proofing that box would not even be on my radar. IMHO, if whatever is in that box under seat gets wet, I probably have much bigger issues to worry about. Lol...

I just remembered the attached picture. As you will see the box locks with the same key that unlocks the front doors, the tailgate, glove box, front arm rest and also locks the back seats into place. So when someone sells one of these under seat boxes on EBay I know they will have to sell it without a key. This means that you will have to go to a Jeep dealership to see if they can get you a new lock and key or see if you can get a locksmith to see if they can get you a key.

Maybe the loch mechanism on the cargo box will be generic and open for any JT key. Seems like a lot of work to key each box for a specific truck.

That's delaminated, man. Honestly? Keyless entry in actuality, really involves a key, placed within a fob, within in your pocket?

So really you still have to take the fob off your dresser, only you don't have to take it out of your pocket at the car. Saving you half of that action time.

Then, as you go about your day, you get 100% time savings because you're hands free and you don't have to go in your pocket nor put the key in the lock (minus the time re-added due to poking your stubby at a start button and placing your footy on the pedal in sequence).

But then, you do have to put the key fob back on the dresser upon return home. Of course.

I still hold with those who agree this key fob is vastly delaminated.
