I wonder if the just black matte would work with the Willys,or does it have to be painted to protect it?
You can get painted ones for ~$230 on ebay. Just search for "gloss black jeep grille", "hydro blue jeep grille" etc.

Well, hell. That's a really good price, depending on paint work quality. I never searched for a pre-painted one. I just checked Distinction Applied's website. That painted aftermarket one was $545.
I'll use my local trusted painter after mine arrives.

I've read all 13 pages and except for a couple stateing a improvement at idle speeds I've seen nothing to support temp drops at freeway speed on hills in 100* heat. I have no issues low speeds even at 7400lbs, Freeway hills in 100* heat yes but using a Tazar fan control have keep it under 240* easy. So any evidence of temp reduction for summer temps on hills ?
Reply from the OP on the first page: Sounds like, in his small sample, it did reduce the temps. He's in Phoenix and we know how hot it gets there in the summer:
UPDATE:
Update on initial observations regarding coolant temps. It's been over 110-115* here in PHX and with the old grille, my coolant temps have been hovering around 215-219*. With the new grille my temps have stayed below 200* in stop and go traffic along with highway driving.

I know it's a small sample but so far so good.

Oops yes, you were specific about temp climbing hills. Maybe you can DM him and ask.
I guess you could always get one of those pre-painted ones that STACHES mentioned above and give it a try, but its $230. Wish I had seen that before ordering my unpainted Grill.

I think it would look fine for sure. It's just the exterior trim of the grill that's painted. The rest of the grill is unpainted on ours now and holds up. Super easy to remove the grill and pop the new one in

I'm tempted to pull the mesh from my grill to see if temps drop.

I liked the new look grill more and more over time, so I bought one too. I just it got in today.
I looked for one that had the headlight bezel buckets and grill opening bezels painted gunmetal gray like I currently have. Some I had run across were all black.
Gotta wait for temps to warm up before taking it to get painted.

Anyone know if there's an adapter kit to mount a front camera from the older grill to the newer one? I've read that it's not directly plug and play.

There is a camera bracket 68566612AA youll need. I believe the wiring gets re-routed but the camera does work on the later style grille.

Is the gun metal the same as the Rubicon gray? That's what I need. Does yours have front camera? Do you have a link?

Can't say for sure if it matches the Rubicon gray or not. I just wanted to match what I currently have. Mine does not have the front camera. The vendor I bought it from may have them but I didn't look for it since I didn't need one. I preassembled the non-painted parts of the grill today. Was pleased with the quality & fitment.

It looks like they do have one with the camera opening:

If you’re doing the grill for coolant temperature reasons just get one of these instead. It’ll make a significant difference compared to what the 24 grill will do.

Why just use a Tazar that can turn the fan on high when needed and many other things for much less $$$
