I have a 21 Jeep gladiator and the USB 2.0 ports don't work with a wireless charger because it requires a 3.0 port.
Is it possible to replace one of the existing USB ports with a 3.0? I've been looking all over the web about this and haven't found anything

I thought USB 3.0 was just more speed. Is it also more amperage??

Are the USB-C ports 3.0?? If so, maybe first do a USB-C to USB converter cable. I remember reading that the USB-C ports in the Gladiator had a higher amperage rating than the regular USB ports. Though don't hold me to that. I may be wrong.

Have you tried it to confirm or is this a theoretical need?

Also, wireless charging options exist from RAM mounts (and probably others) that are hard wired, probably easier if needed.

Specification says USB 2 can deliver 500mA, and USB 3 900mA. If you get into QuickCharge (QC) ports that’s something different.
Anyway, that being said, for power delivery in the JT I’ve pulled over an amp (1000mA) from the USB-A ports on the dash and in the console.

Have no issue using my magsafe charger or generic chotec 10w qi charger.

The USB port in the center console is known to be flaky, use the Dash USB port preferably.

Rear seat ports might also be fine.

USB 3.0 uses more wires in the cable, is faster, more power (900ma vs up to 500ma) and only supports a 3 meter cable vs. 5 meters for USB 2.0
USB 3.0 uses two data paths, one to receive data and the other to transmit while USB 2.0 can only handle only one direction of data at any time.

And keep in mind that the USB 3 standard incorporates the USB 2 standard. That is, USB 2 devices will work in a USB 3 socket, and USB 3 devices (if properly designed) will work in a USB 2 socket, albeit at the USB 2 speed.

Yes, to some extent there has to be backwards compatibility. And some things will charge more slowly or not do "quick charge".

Thread is 2 years old, but my question is related. Excerpts from my 2021 JT Mojave manual: "The Media Hub, located on the instrument panel, below the climate controls, contains a Type C USB port and one standard USB port. The Smart Charging USB ports provide power to your device..."

My question is, if these 2 USB ports are "Smart Charging", will they meet the QC2.0 or QC3.0 (quick charge) specs for my Bulletpoint MagSafe Compatible Wireless Phone Charger (https://www.bulletpointmountingsolutions.com/products/bulletpoint-magsafe-compatible-wireless-phone-charger?variant=40626754322547) ???

Thus far, the unit from Bulletpoint (BP) is not charging my iPhone. I've tried using a different cable (than the one supplied by BP). I even brought the unit in the house and using a charging block that's plugged into my home's 110v outlet - still, not charging. I think it's a bad BP unit, but BP is pointing fingers at my Jeeps USB ports, and they're expecting me to confirm that my USB ports meet the QC standard.

Feedback appreciated.

Nothing about the ports in Jeeps are quick charge. They remind me of the old standard charge rate. Our phones will quick charge from the correct charger - but not from our Jeeps.
