Be warned... It used the ABS system to regulate speed. It sounds like your gear train is coming apart when you activate it until the vehicle slows down to the speed it wants to see. I was playing in my yard in 4WD when I hit the button and thought I'd broken something. I had to do a search here to figure out what was going on, the manual doesn't mention the racket part.

I had the same experience the first time I used it, while testing the different settings. When I heard that grinding, I really thought something had screwed up, but like you said it was the ABS controlling the speed.

Be careful using it down steep grades for long periods. I lost my brakes on mountain switchbacks in CO at midnight. NOT fun! In my opinion I will now use 4LO first gear (and pump the brakes myself).

my selec speed only works in 4LO

It only actuates in 4Lo.
I've used it with great results in snow.
A word of caution: if you're high-centered, or don't have some traction, DO NOT try it: it'll run the throttle up trying to increase speed, and the wheels will just spin!

True. I should have added that I'll use 4Lo first gear and pump the brakes myself.

I tried duck mode once. I absolutely hated it.

I'll do it myself instead.

Left foot braking will outperform bld and select speed in my experience. Instead of the computer trying to modulate braking and throttle I prefer to do it myself. Traction and stability control off and drive using both feet in the sticky situations.

You may hate it, or prefer to attempt modulating the brake and throttle yourself, but going uphill in a foot of heavy, wet snow, at ~3mph, with no slippage or loss of control, made me a believer!

-You cannot react to slippage as fast as the traction control computer can.
-The traction control system/anti-lock brakes have control over individual wheel braking: you don't.

Man, I grew up in snow. I lived in MA for 47 years. I know how to drive in snow. No, I can't react as fast as a computer but then again, I don't have to.

I didn't say the duck mode was useless, I said I don't like the way it worked the couple of times I tried it. This fact, you cannot convince me otherwise.
