Vibration and noise from drive line 55-65mph

Hello again to all! Since I have had this issue on two Gladiator Sport S that I purchased new I thought that some of you may have experienced it as well. The first only had the basic tow package with 3.73 gears and it was a 2022. This one is a 2023 with Max Tow. Both had the noise and vibration since new. For information sake I also had a 2021 Rubicon that I purchased used that was lifted with a bunch of high dollar upgrades that I have no way of knowing if it had it new, but it did not have it. What both of the others did/do is between 55 to 67mph or so they both had / have a vibration that is cyclic in nature as the drive line rotates. I told them that I thought that it was the carrier bearing. The service manager said the he did not but didn't offer any other ideas. He had his drive line tech ride with me and he tried to tell me that it was normal... you know, a Jeep thing. While he was driving back I said that this is my third Gladiator and that the 2021 did not do it. I said so if it is normal doesn't that mean that it was the one that was broke ? He then said that he could feel and hear it as well as feel the vibration in the accelerator. I had already told him that as well as that at one point I had 600 pounds in the bed at the noise/vibration lessened. Which is another reason I felt that it was related to the carrier bearing because at that time the rear drive shaft angle changed. My suggestion was to take a laser thermometer and check the axle housing in the areas of the right wheel bearing, the left wheel bearing, the pinion bearing and the carrier bearing. The only place with a temperature difference worth noting was the carrier bearing! So he agreed and it was approved to replace the rear differential assembly. It had to be ordered but hopefully my issue will be solved. I will update once replaced. Has anyone else experienced a similar noise with vibration? If so did they get it fixed? I have a driveline “drone” at same mph range. Sounds similar to yours. I’ve seen other complaints about the same thing. I thought it was normal enough not to mention it and I’m OCD.

The Problem: The rear driveshafts may have been incorrectly assembled without grease in the monoblock joint, which may cause overheating and a seizure. This could cause the driveshaft to fracture, resulting in a sudden loss of drive power. If the driveshaft completely separates, it may become a road hazard. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.

They had a freeze on sales at that time as well. Tech told me that the carrier bearing area was considerably hotter than the rear differential, bearing area, etc

I am a 2020 at 33,200 miles and have zero vibration/noise, so I wonder if mine has already been addressed (second owner) or if it is to come. I am lifted and on 37s if that makes a difference. Keep us posted!

Check your pinion angle. I have a 22 Willys Sport and had same issue around 7th gear. Before I lifted it, I measured the pinion angle and it was slightly off. During my lift install adjusted my rear upper control arms and made sure the drives haft and pumpkin angles matched. Rides smooth with no issues. I know the stock arms are not adjustable but that is what I found with mine

Got a ‘23 and just noticed yesterday on I-80 @65 what really seems to be driveline. I did air tries from 36 ish to 48ish so maybe that’s why or it exposed the driveline.

Both of mine that do/did it did it on both the stock tires and larger. 275/60r17 and 315/60r17

Dropped off my 2021 Rubicon diesel (46k miles) at the dealership on 29 July because it was making an awful whining sound and vibration felt in the cab. First, I thought the tranny was having problems since it would happen after 4th gear, but especially when allowing the engine to decelerate on its own. Dealer looked at it and send a bunch of fluid samples off to Jeep—bad rear diff, full replacement under warranty. I should get it back at the end of next week. They’re also going to knock out my z96 recall. I’ll post back here with any additional details I get.

Pinion bearings replacement. They also knocked out the hpfp recall work.

Looks like you had a good tech performing the works. Only thing missing on that invoice are the 8 drive shaft flange bolts.
