Visible rust on brakes

My Launch Edition has visible yellow and orange rust on the front and rear passenger side brake rotors. Anyone else have this issue?

Can you post a picture? Brake rotors show surface rust within hours of a rain. If the rust is on the friction surface area it will disappear after the first time you use the brakes. Let us know if it's rust elsewhere.

If you have not driven it in a day or two and it’s humid/wet in your neck of the woods then this is normal. They’re made of iron. Take her for a spin and it’ll wipe the rust away when you hit the brakes.

Water on hot brakes will case rust discoloration on the rotors every time, this is normal on all rotors and will scrub off quickly after use, nothing to be worried about. Drive normally, if you want the rotors cleaned, lightly rest you foot on the brakes for a couple of hundred feet, very lightly.

Yup - normal. Every vehicle with disk brakes will do this - they all will because it's a steel rotor.
Heat and water - on a totally spotless bare metal surface = rust.
You notice it because of the wheels. It's normally more hidden on a lot of vehicles.

I have to ask OP, first vehicle with disc brakes? Or first with disc and fairly open wheels? Or first vehicle you've just stood around staring at?

This post and the one the other day about the wheel weights have me wondering if people are just now paying attention out of paranoia or just like looking at their JT so much they are noticing new things.

Don't get me wrong, the first time you see your rotors all rusted it freaks you out. Like others have said, very normal.

No JT yet but I've found that the rotors seem to rust the most after I wash the car and let it sit for a weekend.

For sure. My son, in his 30s is a smart guy - I mean he's super sharp, but when he saw the rust on the rotors of his new Compass earlier this year man he was ready to take it back to the dealer and ask them what's up, make them do something. I said relax - drive it up the road and back. (he was staying with us until his wife returned from Korea and he moved his family to Florida). I said it was bad enough he was likely to feel some brake pulsing (it had sat for about a month while he was in Korea) So he finally relented and drove it and said I was right - it sort of felt funny for a while, made some noise, then was fine. I showed him is nice shiny new looking rotors........ he was happy.

I have to wonder in this case if this might be it - 4 wheel disk, pretty big wheels, wide open wheels. That's a GOOD thing, but it lets people see what isn't normally easily seen.

Driving did the trick. The Launch Edition wheels give more visibility to the rotors than my other Jeep wheels, so I hadn’t noticed this before. Thanks all.
