Was the Dealer telling the Truth??

I was just at the local dealership ready to pull the trigger on an Overland. BUT WAIT!!!

My MSRP was $50,160
FWP was $47,801
FFP was $47,200 (FCA AFFILIATE)

I then asked for a number lower ($46,500 because negotiating)
So the she went to the manager for the shenanigans they talk about, and so she comes back with and answer........

"The manager said it is illegal to sell a vehicle below the FFP price, I don't know how the other dealerships gave you a discount below FFP. They can lose their dealership license"

I have had other dealerships quote a % below invoice. ---GUPTON is one example---


Sooooo I walked, and said I will think about it. AKA come ask here.

So, I need opinions on this experience at this local dealership. Do your thing internet.

*EDIT* I am placing a build for a 2021 Gladiator
* 3/30 Went back and talked to the higher sales manager (by dumb luck) he will figure the issue out in a couple days
* 4/1 Dealer called back, it's a deal! I AM ONE OF YOU GUYS NOW.

LOL, no it is not illegal. They will not lose their license!

If they are yanking your chain walk.

You are at the right time of the month. Find the dealership where the sales manager needs 1 or 2 more cars before month end to hit is sales goal and get his bonus. That sales manager will deal!

If you can't make the deal by the end of the month, wait until the end of the next month.

If your dealer is a no-haggle dealer, find another dealer! No-haggle just means, we rip everyone off equally! That is why CarMax is the most profitable used car dealer in the nation!

Sorry, ex-salesman here. I didn't like the ethics I saw at dealerships! You can get a good deal, but do your research and know what others are really paying, not what the fair price sites say!

This is a good place to discuss those things, but it seems to be off limits discussion. There are threads here about how to get that elusive 7-8% below Invoice.

Best guy to talk to and He will give you the best deal for one along with the best value for trade in.
They come from all over to deal with him and his crew.

I called Jeep customer service just a couple minutes ago about this "It's illegal to sell lower than FFP price." And the employee over the phone was just shocked that I even asked that. And of course he looked through what I assume is there database. And promptly said "this is not illegal, I suggest you shop at a different dealership."

A dealership can sell the truck for whatever price they want. Lol, you did right by RUNNING!

The MSRP on mine was 51k, I got 45 plus tax tags and title after bringing them a quote from Tri Cities from these forums. Describing low prices as illegal is almost comical.

Dealers that lie like this deserve to have their names and deeds publicized.

Ok, I went back and happened to be the sales managers' boss there at closing, not the guy and salesman I initially talked to. Turns out the guy had only been there for 2 weeks and said new guy would look into this and possibly give my price. So all might be well.

Mine was 51k as well, but I am pushing for 46k. So If they say yes, I'm going to sign for it.
