Took my JLU through a foot deep puddle at speed. Water was forced up into the engine bay and flooded the power module. Everything worked for a month or two until the power module corroded enough to kill the engine. $1200 repair bill to replace the power module. Needless to say, I don't cross water at speed in my Gladiator but will be extending breather tubes as high as they can go... ?
Power module?
Do you mean the PDC, power distribution center, where the fuses are? Or, the PCM, power train control module?

Heck, I even wash my engine bay now and then................. hard to imagine only a foot of water, but then - at speed? That could make a huge difference depending on your definition of at speed.

PDC, likely 10-15 or 20 mph, wave came over the top of the Gladiator. Goosed it just before entering the puddle. Quite fun till the Gladiator died at work! ?

Same part in the same place so might as well have been either one. That's just wild that it went like that.
Yep, just doing what they do in commercials, but got lucky I guess! ? Sharing my experience here in case others having issues too and not responsibly driving through water at slow speeds! ?

Our local valley roads flood every time it rains, splash water over the roof of the jl and jt all winter long. No issues to date. Maybe I'm just lucky. Had my 2017 ram rebel up to the door handles in a river crossing once and it went another 100k miles without issue after that up until I sold it. Now if it is 30" stock and I add 3.5" lift and 39s I should be good to at least 36.5"...
As far as the difs sucking in water from rapid cooling, the breathers are up high enough that your difs should have been in the water for awhile and already be cooled before you hit that depth at which point the check valves should be closed and not sucking in water unless you are jumping your Jeep into a lake?

There's a lot of logic in that.

Our problem is what you splash through isn't always just water or mud, especially in the spring or late winter. I dope the heck out of electrical connections with grease to keep the crap out.
