For sure!Ocracoke is on my bucket list!! Worth the trip?
My brother rents a house up past Corolla on the beach every fall. Takes about 30 minutes of beach driving to get to it. Been going there for years. Can't to get back there. For sure!
In 2004 when I first got stationed in MD I did understand the hype........until 2009 when my wife booked a house in Nags Head........been going every year since then. Its intoxicating down in OBX.
We've stayed in Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla and now for the last 5 years up in the most northern part on the off road beaches in Carova. The night time in Carova is like being on another planet...........dark and dead silent......only thing you hear is the surf
Its fuckin glorious up there. Plus, I love driving on the beachMy brother rents a house up past Corolla on the beach every fall. Takes about 30 minutes of beach driving to get to it. Been going there for years. Can't to get back there.
Late Sept. up there. There is hardly anyone around. You got the beach all to yourself. My brother will be there again this year in Sept. We can't make it because my daughter is getting married in Nov. Don't have enough days off. But the daughter is getting married in Myrtle Beach. I'll get some beach time there. Its fuckin glorious up there. Plus, I love driving on the beach
The older I get, the more I want to be away from people lol
This is too funny, been hanging out on Assateague island since they had the back roads.. now closed.. if you know... you know and Avon/Frisco NC. That has always been a gripe... maybe I'm just an old man... but yes.. miles and miles of beach and you park next to me... too funny. I am working on being more social. One of my rigs back in the day... Yes she's was converted to 4x4.. and floated down the beachFor fellow beach bums, do y’all notice this one weird occurrence when beach driving? My old man used to go down to OBX in the 70s. He had the first model Jimmy and told me about this phenomenon. I’ve noticed the same thing. It’s understandable if you’re fishing at the point on HI, but it’s funny to me when I’m in some random spot of straight beach in OI.
No matter where I pull up to the shoreline, and I always put maximum distance between me and the next guy (on OI that can be 1/4 mile or more), some jabroni inevitably pulls up right next to me. And it seem that if we’re surfing, it’ll be a guy who’s fishing, if I’m fishing, it’s surfers. If I’m letting the dog run around and catch frisbees, it’s someone with their own dog or kids or someone that hates dogs. And it’s not like people pull up and introduce themselves and try to be sociable. I don’t mind meeting people, hanging out, etc. We can share beer and talk Jeeps, fishing, etc. But that’s usually not what happens. Other than Carolina good ol’ boys who are usually pretty friendly, I mostly get these lugubrious dudes who act like they don’t like people. Why did hell then did you pull up next to me? My old man is totally right about this and it makes no sense. Literally miles of empty beach and I get a dude pull up close enough next to me that I can hit their truck with my frisbee, and act all bitchy about sharing the beach.
