What’s up with the rear window on hardtops leaking?

Deleted member 31576

We took our 2021 Gladiator to Jeep in Gainesville, Fl today because of water that was located when we removed the portable Bluetooth speaker behind the rear seat.

We were told that a claim would have to be submitted for Jeep to approve the repair. Our gladiator only has 18,000 miles on it. After originally being told to bring the vehicle in for service, we drove to the dealer over 20 miles away, only be told the repair would have tobe approved.

We also have had the random misfire CEL four times on the vehicle and they are looking into that as well.

Jeep called back to let us know to drop the vehicle off to them on July 6th so it can go to a body shop.

Jeep - we are disappointed in the lack of initiative to handle these issues. Hardtop leak issues are a thing. So are random misfire issues.

Why is it that the customer is having to take a bulk of the initiative here?

Every person that buys a Jeep is free advertisement for Jeep - good and bad.

I've never had time to take mine back to the dealer but it stopped leaking a few months ago. It rains here all the time, too. Strange.

Of those with the leaks - be it the rear window or the roof itself or whatever, WHERE is the water being found? I have yet to see any water, not even a spot, in mine but then MAYBE I'm not looking in the right places. I do not have a speaker so don't have that same BT speaker space in mine so I can't directly compare.
I'm seeing a number of people talk of the leaks and yet so far - nothing here. So I want to be sure I'm not missing something or that I don't have so much JUNK stashed behind the seats that I'm missing something.

I found the water on the trim above the rear window.

My service manager says there was an issue sealing the original windows. I think he told me that it uses a gasket with a seam in the middle. Anyways, they ordered a new window for mine. It took 2 months or so to come in; was this week. When they opened the new glass, it was chipped. The service manager informed me that there is a new part number (revised glass I guess) and I now have that ordered. Supposed to be in on 9 Jul.

Thanks for info - will look there. I have pressure washed mine several times, driven through torrential rains, and washed it with bucket and hose at home a few times - will check that area out.

And good luck with your repair. At least 7-9 is only a bit over a week away now.

I noticed on mine right above the sliding window there was a gap about 1-2 inches in the seal. I bought some flex seal and filled it in and it hasn’t leaked anymore

I have the same issue and my dealer is less than helpful so I ended up putting weatherstrip all around the window..not happy that I had to do this but it is better than having someone damage my top and go thru that whole mess getting that remedied. I will have a ARE shell on there so the seal will not be seen anyway.

I’ve had such bad luck lately at the dealerships that I was afraid as well to let them touch it. I used this stuff at first and it worked well. But I just decided to caulk it.

I haven't opened mine on my 2020 since I bought it. I guess I should just keep it closed

Most are leaking at the top seal which has nothing to do with opening and closing the window. It is the actual seal (or lack there of) of the window itself ..thanks Jeep :(

Mine appears to leak both at the top and bottom. I tried the EPDM weatherstrip but it didn't help. Need to get it to the dealer, but without rain forecast for the next 5 months, it's not a high priority.

Dealership replaced mine u see warranty but it took 3 months to get a window in

So we received a phone call today from Shawn in service to say the window will take two to three weeks to come in and that it will have to be replaced. So we are in rainy season in Florida and that to me is unacceptable. Not like this is a new issue for Jeep. A leaking 2021 Jeep with <20k miles on it is unacceptable and we will deal with it. But the same Jeep has a random misfire issue that has been to the same service center four times and HAS NOT been fixed. This is unacceptable, unprofessional and just poor business.

@JeepCares - why is the customer service and communication so horrible with Jeep? When we took the vehicle back to Jeep the other day it was as no one knew what we were talking about.

Does anybody write things down when you are making a service request/complaint?

The customer service and service department are horrible. It’s an inconvenience to the customer to them, at least that’s the way we are treated.

I am going to lemon law this vehicle.
