I did thousands worth of damage with full width anyways when I hit a deer, it bounced off front then ripped my passenger fender clean off. After that I had considered the mopar steelie that could take the wings off before I went with a simple design I just like. Really for my own aesthetic choice over no other reason.

Honestly I don't think there is much down sides to a stubby if that is what you want though.
Was it plastic? If so, that’s not really a bumper.

Yeah, the reason I changed it out mostly for off road tbh. Realized how easily the inner steel bumper on that could be bent. On road it doesn't matter though. The mopar steel one would probrably been destroyed in that deer impact anyways and still would have lost my fender due the angle of hitting it.

Insurance bought me a brand new plastic one, taking up room someplace as it was on only a couple months before pulling it off.

Yeah. If you want to protect fenders. Full steel or 1/4” aluminum is the only way.

I don’t want anything under my tire in an accident. I hit a deer with my wings on (not mopar bumper, custom), and it hit the driver wing. It bounced off with minimal cosmetic damage. Had it been stubby, I’d have had significant damage to fender, lights, driver mirror, etc. it was a large deer. In an interstate accident, having the wings off could be the difference between an impact and a loss of control or worse, a roll over if you jump a large enough object.

My wings are on unless I’m offroading.

I've hit two deer with my stubby this year alone and had no issues with this. (They have been crazy in PA this year) The bumper sticks out far enough in front of the fenders (at least mine does) that wherever the deer is at impact they are absolutely tossed like a sack of potatoes before they can get to the fenders. I have dash cam of both but doubt that would be allowed by mods. The bumper had probably saved me 2x $1000 deductible thereby paying for itself almost 3 times.

I have had no issues running stubby for a few years now on the street.

If you rear end someone the axle bear the entire brunt of the force instead of a bumper resulting in approximately $13,000 worth of damage and repairs right before you’re supposed to pick up your new canopy camper and take a weeklong trip to Moab.

want to know how I know? 😂

Took the extensions off my steel bumper to install wiring blocking plates behind the bumper and I like the stubby look.

I can imagine a few downsides on the street particularly in an accident but I was wondering what others thought about downsides of a stubby bumper on the street?

Appreciate any responses.

I never seen that license plate before. I now have one on order. Thanks for posting the photo.

That's why you never swerve. Offset crashes are the worst case scenario. Square up and distribute the force as much as possible.

It's illegal in some states. Definitely illegal in my state. Instead of pushing a pedestrian or bike rider away with your bumper you suck them under your tires and run them over. But, hey, you like the stubby look, can't argue with that.
What state is that? may be time to move!
