What did you WINCH with your Gladiator today?

I’m also on the 2” receiver add on guy list…2 on my work benches for tool holding, wheel grinder, vise mounts, crane mounts (2 each, front/rear of my trailer, one on a free standing mount for the crane. Adding and another to my front winch bumper (You never know if you need another spot to hold or lock something down.)

Got me thinking Mike , why couldn’t we put a adjustable jib crane on the front using bumper shackle mounts , also using a front receiver hitch , use a slide in drop hitch like from a weight distributing hitch , put a wheel on it to use your bumper mount winch for lifting . It could extend out , then put back in and have it fold back against the weight distributing drop hitch, and to finish it off a drop leg with foot to help support weight. I would want to have it pivot left and right but think winch line issues and more importantly making truck unstable would be a concern. I am expecting Wildhobo and you to get on this!….Jack

Yep, you’re on the right track to a mobile picker. Stabilizing the jeep is primary in any design, weight in motion kind of thing.
things in Jeep world have to be:
mobile (receiver hitch to receiver hitch).
strong (Steel, all steel) connections.
expandable configurations for different applications.
weight and strength that will break down into small, storable chunks for on board Safe transport.


a couple of specific targets im looking at adding…trolling motor rack and transport. Honda 9.9 kicker motor (143 Lbs)it needs to come with me in an upright safe carry position. Boat is on my Xsporter rack. Mobile crane on one side of the rear bumper, attached to the truck frame…lift kicker onto it‘s frame mounted receiver hitch off other side of rear bumper…couple more lbs in the air bags and I’m now accessing lakes you’ve only dreamed of fishing.

A couple of crude drawings a year ago or so to help me visualize positions and possibilities.

Jack, your point on about the front and rear shackle mounts being tied to frame strong, but I’ve tried to stay away from them incase you need them. One, front and one rear, could be used though. The pivot things a must have, winch line shouldn’t be hard to control.

I've been looking to ad a hoist to my Big tex car trailer ... didn't even think to want a winch on it and use a receiver ... well guess ad that to the list
