I would imagine they would have not ignored that and not reinforced it if needed.Can’t a collision of the same sort happen on the driver side as well with its wheel and tire?
Drivers left side is not just a mirror of the right passenger side. For one thing, the FAD is the weak part of the differential on the right side and more prone to break in a collision and become more kinetic. The drivers left side also has the main gear and pinion offset on that side with frame reinforcements for the steering box and other things. Totally different crush zone.
