Learned to drive a stick in a ‘60 Willys truck. First car, in 1974 was a ‘55 M38A1. Drive that little cuss from South GA to Colorado in ‘77. Thought I’d never get there. Top sustained speed was about 45, wandered all over the road, had to avoid interstates, loved every mile. Have had 10 or 12 odd Jeeps since then. M38, more M38A1s, a CJ3-B (the “high hood”), a ‘67 Kaiser Wagoneer as a family ride in the mid ‘80’s along with a ‘67 M715 at the same time, a ‘73 CJ-5 V8 bought for a dollar. Even a M151-A2 (not officially a jeep as the grill was horizontal). Needless to say, my new gladiator is the first Jeep I’ve had that would go 80 mph in air conditioned comfort. Hell, for that matter it’s the first that had a working radio!

First 4 were stick, last 3 auto. Got the CJ7 in 1997, so I've had a Jeep nearly continuously for over 20 years. I learned to wrench on the cj7 as I never had the money to pay anyone to fix it back then, and it broke down nearly constantly - at least partially because the engine was way too much for the rest of it.

You are also a brave man! I wouldn’t tow our tandem axle Airstream with a Gladiator.
