The 850RE found in the gas jeep is build by FCA, the 8hp70 in the 5.7 rams and diesels is build in germany by ZF.
TO clear things up. The ecoD is mated to the 8HP75, the "75" adds a little more torque capacity then the "70".

It is a built in Germany transmission, which mean FCA hasn't had a chance to ruin it and is a true ZF trans.

The gas motor trans (850RE) are ZF designs that FCA has screwed with.

On the passenger side. There is an exhaust bracket that may rub on the wiring harness. If tat happens. You can get a shit load of CELs. The 21's had this problem. But haven't heard of the 22's or 23's having it.
It’s not all 21s are bad to be fair. I have 36k of towing and high temps. No issues here.

I would not go so far.

The transmission for the gas engines is build under ZF license in the US which is not better or worse than the transmissions for the diesel engines manufactured in Germany.

In my opinion both transmissions are a great piece of engineering art (but still might have some issues).

I know. It's only been about a half dozen or so. But it's one of the things to look at if you get multiple CELS.

The only thing I can say is the motor is made by VM as I understand it. I had an 87 Alpha Romeo 33 Station Wagon back when I lived in Italy. The motor was absolute crap! It was a 3 cylinder turbo diesel. I had to replace the heads on that motor about once a year. That motor sucked. I got rid of it as soon as I could. Never again! I hope they got better but I bet not.
Anyone who actually owned an Alfa Romeo would know how to properly spell it--just saying........

That makes people talk heh?

I'll try to adress every question lol

My JTRD is a 2022, bought used at 19500 km. I have an appointment on wednesday for the pump recall already.

It has a metalcloak true dual rate 3.5, with 1" spacers added in the front to compensate the heavy engine. It now rides like a cadillac. Hands down the better driving jeep i've had. In the winter It runs on studded 35" nokian tires, and 37" nitto trail grapplers in the summer. Warn winch in the stock bumper, and home made step/sliders using the oem rails. So not an heavy jeep by any means.

I tow occasionnaly, mostly in the winter, my enclosed 7x14, with my snowmobile in it. Never going very far.

Other than that I buy fire woods and bring it home by 3 cords trips, short distances again.

I do 70km's a day to go to work, and i'm always on the road. I live in a small town, that could be a village, so im always going to the next bigger cities around.

This jeep is my 5th. I'va had a 97 TJ 4 banger on 33's, then a 2012 jk on 37's and 4.88's, 2015 jku same setup but automatic , 2021 3.6 JT on 37's and 5.13's (millage got worse than 4.10, and had issues with install quality). So im not gonna regear this one unless I really feel the need ( still got the stock 4.10's of the gas JT on the shelves) And if I do it will be a in specialized 4x4 shop. Had the previous one done at the dealer, thinking I should have no issues, and got seals leak, loose pinion bearing, noise.. so now they are dealing with their own crap parked in the lot ?

If have seen a video on youtube of a performance shop recommanding to change the thermostat for a 190, stock is 210 I believe. To help keep it cooler after a tune. I understand for warmer climate down south, but I feel like it would be too cold for our winters ? we can see down to -40°C sometimes.

Good point on the fuel additive. Actually did not think about this one. This is my first diesel. I heard people talk about how dry nowadays fuel is.

The shop I am looking to, is using mrtuning I believe, and offer full custom exhaust.

And I know people owning ecoD rams for many years without issues with the right treatment so im not too worried.
Few notes for ya.

People view the high running temps as an issue with a modern diesel. The higher temps do a bunch of things, primarily boiling out any moisture, and reducing fuel content due to nature of blow by in a high compression engine (in the engine oil). Secondly they reduce soot load that the DPF has to deal with.

I would not change out the TStat. It will make it harder for the engine to be efficient, and have clean oil.

Secondly, most of the tunes increase fueling and boost while under load, which results in better power output. While that’s nice, you need to be aware that due to blow by, you will be sending some of that fuel into the oil system likely reducing its life (as shown in the oil thread via UOA analysis.

I’d love a tune, but don’t do it unless you are up to do more frequent oil analysis, and oil changes, or sacrifice potential longevity. IMO

They’re a dice roll…

Ive had two and both failEd under 10k miles.

When I buy another I’m pulling the engine and going through it to inspect and replace what failed the first few times.

I’ve found some used low miles diesels but they balk when I ask about open recalls or say you’ll get the remaining warranty etc

I’m betting the gladiator diesel will be the last high torque workhorse jeep ever produced that runs on a liquid based fuel Honesty, if it’s what you are looking for, go for it.

I have crappy luck, I’d drive off lot and HPFP would shit the bed and I’d wait for months on end getting it fix and then they say not under warranty

How many miles on engine #1 when it failed?
9,274. Failure occurred after my first complimentary oil change. Turns out the lube tech forgot to fill it back up.
