If you had one perfect day to hit the trails, where would you go? What's on the itinerary, and what gear is absolutely coming with you? Recovery gear, camp setup, lights, fridge, camera gear...whatever you consider a must-have.

I really enjoyed Backway to Crown King.

So something like that. A mild trail with varying scenery that takes entire day to get through - probably in a western state as that's what I'm familiar with. Nothing where I need to work hard to avoid damage, or that requires hyper critical spotting.

Bring my usual recovery gear, a change of clothes, 7 gallon water can, tools, my Skottle, fridge, and something to cook for lunch.

If this is a one way trip to a place to camp, then probably my Gazelle T4, cot, and camp box will be with me. I don't have RTT's and other fancy stuff.

Bonus points if it has water or a river (lake, etc) along the way.

I like a trail with a good mix. Doesn’t have to be super scenic or anything. Maybe some slight variety of landscape but the difficulty definitely has to be varied. Give me a gate keeper and some cruise sections to just feel the suspension cycle through and then some more rocky flexy sections to get twisted in. Something like Gold Mountain up in Big Bear. Or even 2N02 where you have a main trail and it’s a choose your own adventure type stuff.

All the recovery gear is coming, a case of water and calorie bars, a compass, a backpack, my cheap hoopty electric cooler thing for some cold cut lunches, bug spray, maybe a change of shirt, and Dude Wipes.

Hard to argue with that. Nothing beats a trail ride with lunch or dinner by the water. Do you fish along the way?

We were following along nodding our heads until "Dude Wipes"... honestly that's probably one of the more underrated trail essentials. 😂

Back when I was traveling more, I didn't.

Nowadays - I'd probably always have a fishing pole with me. I bought a 4'8" Ugly Stik specifically because it fits under the bed rail 😂

They work and they’re refreshing. Plus it keeps me from wasting water washing hands and stuff. A quick wipe of back of the neck and face during lunch is good for bringing that second wind if it’s needed. Some trail days are more taxing than others. :like:
