I have run Spacers on my Samurais for over 2 decades and I have heard all the countless old wives tales. The most conman ones come from shim spacers or cheap jungle site garbage.
Never heard anyone have an issue a issue from High quality one like made by the designed by Tom and Eddie at Spidertrax, Brent at Trail tough or the Folks at Stahl.
I been running Stahl steel spacers on the rear of my 3/4 ton GMT400 Suburban for 7 years as my tow pig and My buggy has 1.5 Spidertrax for over 19 of cross country extreme rock crawling for years years red locktite and torqued to correct specs
