What does wheel spacers have to do with anything, a wheel spacer isn't going to cause a failure like that. It's not anymore stress on components than running the wheels with the same offset. Doesn't seem silly to me, maybe he could get those wheels with the offset that he wanted.
There are those who know and those destined to find out for themselves.

I'm not sure what that means but if your saying a wheel spacer is dangerous and can fail then please enlighten with a solid example of one failing when properly installed, and I am speaking about.a hub centric spacer, properly installed. I have used them for 20+ years and know hard wheelers using them without fail. Don't tell me a story you know, let's see the proof.

Yup he said his front wasn't locked and he was bouncing. Also a diesel with what looked like heavy bumper and winch. A bit of weight on that front end.
Do diesel Wranglers have cast iron knuckles too?

Reid racing knuckles and some HD ball joints will run you about $1k. 2 Major fail points. Bet that tow out was about the same price as parts that wont fail.

But I dont see anything there that should snap the aluminum knuckles. Looks very mild at worst.

edit...

fancy shocks, bet speed was involved.

A simple yank on the beach here on the east coast is like $500..............I'm sure that recovery cost him $1500-2500

Did you see how many trail badges that guy had?
Retired Vet doing nothing but wheeling; my dream as a fellow vet!
In other words... that knuckle didn't owe him anything!
Time for an upgrade! Wish him the best.
Great observations and I agree on living the retired/retirement dream.

He definitely got his money worth out of that stock knuckle

I have over 100,000 total miles on 2 TJ's with Spidertrax spacers running 35 and 37" tires some of which were in Rock Crawling competitions. I also have 20,000+ miles on my Alfa Romeo running Otis spacers front and rear.
I feel pretty qualified to state that.
Quality spacers, when installed properly, [Loctite and torqued to spec] have zero issues and introduce no additional stress on the rest of the vehicle
Compared to
wheels with the the same total offset

Explain please. Same as wheels with more back spacing. Geometry is exactly the same, can't change geometry, it's the same either way you go. It's going to wear exactly the same.

What I'm saying is a Jeep on stock 17X7.5 stock wheels with 1.75" wheel spacers and a wheel with say -12 offset I think is what offset w would be with no spacers would wear nothing out any faster. If they are identical offsets then they are going to wear the same.

There is a member on here that damaged his aluminum knuckle last month. Climbing a ledge with the lockers on. U-joint broke, and the ball-joints got ripped out.

Stop posting this stuff. Makes me want to avoid off-road, haha. I'm already squeamish every time I go out in my DD.
