The 8 in screen is basically where the old speedo was on early CJ. Why not have a digital speedo option on the 8 inch? Seems like an obvious little treat for Jeep to have done

Gladiators didn't have a center speedo like the CJ.

I’m not understanding.
There is a digital speedo option in the drivers center screen by scrolling through the parameters through the steering wheel controls.

Because while old school, it sucks, ask mini, it’s not great and that screen as much as I think it would be somewhat cool to have what you are talking about...needs to display my directions, texts, contacts, and radio etc.

I’m referring to the screen that houses the speedo, tach, fuel guage, coolant gauge.
Is there no options in this screen on some models?

I think what the op is referencing is having an option to turn the center infotainment screen into a rendering of the old CJ center dial that housed the speedo, turn signal and such.

I think that works be a cool Easter egg mode but from my experience driving a CJ it is always a bit distracting looking to the right and down to see the speed or what not.

Ahh, ok, gotcha, thanks for the clarification.
I agree with your experience.

Exactly that. I keep my center screen off most of the time unless i am using maps. Just thought of the old cj5 and thought it would be cool to have a digital rendering of that center speedo.

I have thought it would be great to pull up the gauges on the center console rather than scrolling thru them...oil press, coolant temp, etc

That's the way I interpreted it as well. Kinda like the massive screen I had in my Mustang - it didn't have any gauges there, just the screen, and you had the options of how it was laid out and what it showed. Really liked playing around with that, adjusting according to my mood.
