Winch at lightest weight? 8k+

Why do the manufactures hide what there winches weigh? Warn, not on there page, Smitybuilt nope not on the spec page.

So I put to you all;

What's the lightest weight winches? Assume synthetic rope.

Smitybuilt 9500 S looks like it's apx 60 pounds, but that's a "ship weight".
Warn Evo 10-S 66 pounds per Amazon but is that correct?

Used to be on Warn's specs.....must have decided it put them at a disadvantage? Otherwise they would post it up as an advantage vs other brands.

If I remember correctly 4wheelparts shows a weight number. Not sure if thats total weight of the winch itself or with the box and everything included though

LOL I agree! They have the 12k and the 9500 as the same weight with different motos, wonder if it's a canned response?

Remember that the winch max rating is ONLY on the very first pass around the drum, i.e. fully extended. Due to the circumference of the next passes the lb rating drops quite a bit.

A Warn Zeon 12k winch pulls this by layer
1: 12,000
2: 9,894
3: 8,117
4: 7,324

So your 8,000lb winch will be roughly 66% of all those figures (8/12), am sure you can find published stats on it. You may be getting less than 5,000 lbs on the first pass.

Point being... when looking at winches... weight of the winch may not be that critical if your needs require higher pulling capacities each pass of line.

I was looking between the 10-S and 12-S Zeons and the difference was 5 pounds and for the extra 150$ ill just go for the 12-S. I'm sure the jeep won't even feel the difference of those 5 pounds. It'll get some good use this winter pulling people out of ditches...

Looking at the 9.5k Smittybuilt new one. Looks like one of the lighter ones with some nice features.

The honest truth is mine will rare if not never get used.... but it will look cool!

That's a good CJ/YJ/TJ winch, I didn't even consider that for the JTR. The 12K Smitty XRC G3 was $700 at the retail store 4 Wheel Parts. The 46 lb for the 9.5 vs 66 lbs for the 12 is irrelevant.

Which for us sets you up for a 9500 lbs winch.

I went with a 10,000 pound for extra piece of mind.
