UPDATE:

Not rubbing the mount plate edge. I believe it is the spacer plate edge.

Warn mount plate and winch are in now however noticed something concerning.

It appears that the winch line will be rubbing across the inner edge of the mount plate fairlead opening.

I have looked for a fairlead that extends into or closer to the winch that would give a smooth rounded surface for the line to run across but no luck. Any suggestions?

You can also look into adding a spacer plate under the winch. I wasn't happy with the fairlead alignment on my JK, so I ended up adding a 1/8" thick 6061-T6 plate under the winch. If you do add any type of spacer plate, make sure that the mounting hardware length is correct to give you proper thread engagement.

I have the warn mount plate with the thicker warn fairlead (more rounded edges for the entry and exit of the synthetic line) and I do not have that problem. Here is a pic.

The fairlead is not the problem, it is the inner lower edge of the mount fairlead opening that the line will scrape across as it comes out. I will take a look at that fairlead however.

yes, I am guessing that the fairlead vertical opening maybe smaller on this thicker Fairlead.... and maybe, that is why I did not see this issue... They put some effort on this fairlead to give a larger curve when pulling against the edges of the fairlead - supposedly saving the synthetic line with those ackward pulls.

I assume you are using the stock fairlead that came with the winch.... I remember comparing it against this thicker fairlead, but, I cannot remember if the vertical hole in the thicker fairlead is actually smaller.... I tend to think it is, because getting the synthetic line cover to first come out when winching is always an issue. It always gets stuck on the bottom or top edge when first pulling out the line... but, honestly, I am not sure at all if it will help you on your issue. Here is a couple of pics I found on Amazon of the back of the 1.5 inch thick Warn Fairlead that is on my Truck. Maybe you can use that 4 inch or 10 cm measurement below to calculate the vertical opening.

If this looks worthwhile to you, let me know, and I will take a picture of mine with a tape measure in front of it.

Interesting. Ok, the backside of my fairlead is rounded to where the spacer plate edge is slightly higher than the rounded edge of the backface of the fairlead. The edge that the line will be in contact with in the bottom edge of spacer plate. Not the Mount. My fairlead opening top to bottom measures slightly less than 1".

Not sure though.

Yes a grinder to make the opening in the sheet metal behind the fairlead a little larger

Is it rubbing on the Warn winch plate opening or the bumper? I'd rather raise the winch instead of reaming out the opening. Also, i find using 1/2" carriage bolts really help with centering the fairlead with the Warn plate as the slotted bolt holes on the Warn are 1/2".

It is rubbing across the "Spacer Plate" lower edge. The mount opening is taller than the spacer opening, the bumper is not an issue. The spacer plate comes packaged with the mount plate from warn.

It will be a quick fix to get the spacer plate slot opened up some I think, a grinder should do it.

Spacer plate sits between fairlead and bumper with fairlead attaching directly to it. I have ordered a Warn fairlead in hopes it will be a solution, will see, if not some grinding is goin' down.

Ohh. The adapter cover, well grind away and apply some touch up paint to prevent rust.
