As we all know Jeep’s are know for windshield cracks, called to have mine replaced and the guy says $480.00 for aftermarket and $850.00 for OEM, so set it up told him aftermarket was fine if they break that often. Buddy has a JT as well just had his glass replaced cost $199.00 aftermarket. I have no ACC or anything. Question is what should a plain JT windshield cost no Gorilla glass???

sounds a bit expensive, lots of people (companies) trying to up the prices saying inflation like its 500 percent or something. I couldn't imagine it costing more than 400 but heck. maybe you live in bfe.

Depends! There's no "what should it cost" to it. There's multiple makers of after-market glass - some are US based, some are not, some are good, some are not.
To have a windshield replaced for only 200 bucks - there's something to your story that's missing. Did he have insurance? Was it a chain shop or a mom and pop shop?
Frankly, if that $199 was the total cost, I'd run - away. Unless he had insurance or some coverage that took care of part of it. Even 10 years ago it I couldn't get windshields replaced with cheap glass for that. And prices have gone up since then.

Why do people keep comparing to what "my buddy did" or trying to find out if someone else paid less?

Anyway, there's the cost of glass, disposal, materials (urethane isn't cheap) and the labor.
And all of that will vary from location to location.
I'd bet I could get "cheap glass" put in here for less than in California, for example.
But I'm the sort that if I was told "$199 total" I'd probably thank them and then call until I found better glass and better labor - for more money.

I agree, about the cheap glass, the buddies shop he used was a mom and pop that did $199.00 there was no insurance involved. The shop that told me $480.00 and $850.00 has done them for me before, on a Tj and a JK, they are an individually owned shop. He said the difference in cost is because of something about wind noise reduction??? Never heard of that before. Just trying to figure if that’s legitimate or BS. He put one in my F150 for $345.00 three months ago.

Mine will too with a $500 deductible, for that I might as well pay for it. I called another glass company and was quoted $475.00 for OEM glass and $250.00 for aftermarket. I guess the big question is are there different windshields for different models? I know there may be a difference in one with adaptive cruise control and one with out. The guy that was high took my vin# and said it took a special windshield, the cheaper company only asked if it was a Rubicon or if it had ACC. Don’t know just thought $850.00 was high for OEM. But hey, I’m a tight ass about some things! Thanks for the reply’s and advice.

Just did a quote on Safelite for non ACC glass WITH the Jeep in bottom right corner (OEM) and it is $585 for glass, labor and cleanup.

I'm in Central Indiana.

If you go to their website you can get a quote for your zip code. Just plug in all the info and tell them you're going to pay and not involve insurance. No personal info needed for this.

Two windshield shops in Calgary , AB sell non OEM, no ACC windshields for my JTR for $230 cad. No insurance involved.

I’ve used CalAlta for years and will be going to GO GLASS next in the spring (April/May) after the gravel has been street swept up.
