I tried a different brand and found the wireless connection to be unreliable. Sometimes it would connect, sometimes it wouldn't. I tried in in the Jeep and in a Hyundai. Same results. I sent it back.

I bought two last year on Black Friday from Ottocast for my wife and myself. They connect well to both her Lincoln and the Jeep. Mine has a popping sound randomly every few minutes but hers works perfectly. We've tried switching them in vehicles, with each other’s phones, different cables and ports, but the same device always pops. Judging from ours, the quality on these things is hit and miss. I stuck mine in the console and forgot about it until seeing this thread, but I’ll send them an email and see if they might help. It is probably several months too late but for the price of an email it’s worth a shot. They are a good idea and wireless maps with carplay work great. The extra battery drain was noticeable, but my issue was sound quality and it was bad enough that I don’t use it.

I have been using the Carlinkit version since my JK and I got it April 21 and it's been amazing. I thought recently it was crapping out on me but it turns out it's the crappy cable in the center console, so I'll be routing a cable from the head unit to the glove box. As far as battery drain yes, it does but most of my trips are short so it's no big deal. When I commute an hour to work each way 2 days a week I just plug in the cable instead. Having thoughtless access to all my music and podcasts and not having to pay for siriusxm is well worth imo.

I have an iOS "Shortcut" to turn on low power mode when connecting to carplay.
It's been pretty great too, but if I need my GPS to be lightning fast I plug it in wired.
I think the GPS apps are slightly delayed one low power mode.

Last week after replying to this thread I emailed the company that made my device. They replied that evening and asked me to reinstall the newest firmware. I did that late Friday night, and the unit has worked fine since then. The random crackling and popping I was hearing are gone and the sound is as good as when my phone is plugged in.

Now that I have been using the adapter again regularly, I noticed the battery drain being a lot worse than I remembered. For me the main reason seems to be because where I park at home and at the office is close enough to the Jeep that my phone keeps trying to connect to it and that was causing the battery to drain much faster. I remember reading something on the forum about how to make the USB ports on the dash only active while the engine is running but I couldn’t find it, so I bought a short USB cord extension with an inline switch. Using it and assuming I remember to turn it off when I leave the Jeep, the drain on the phone isn’t nearly as bad.

How did you set this up? I use a second hand carlinkit i got from a forum member and love it. But on longer trips the battery drain is noticeable.

Connects every time.
Have to unplug it every few months if it doesn't connect within a minute.
Using it for 2 years. Plugged into console so hidden out of way.
I used it with a magsafe charger but I like a stronger magnetic mount so I have a steel plate in my case and plug in if I need a charge on the ride. (Road trips-not daily)

Sorry I started taking screenshots to answer you but then lost the plot lol.

find shortcuts, you might have to install it, it’s by Apple now since they bought the startup.

then find automations and select personal automations

create a new one select when CarPlay connects trigger, then in the do select low power mode.

then create one that does the opposite for when it disconnects to exit low power mode.

I actually returned the unit I originally posted. It was sucking down battery life like no tomorrow. So back to square one.
