Apple Car Play works wireless?

I bought it for andriod auto as I have an S9. I tried it with my wife's apple 11, still no dice. When you say update, what did you have to do? Did you have to load anything on uour headunit. My instructions for the Carplay say to download an apk onto the headunit?

There is more then one version of cplay2air device. You gotta have the one for the head unit

Next gen CarPlay will have wireless capabilities for new vehicles with the proper hardware- it will still not work in current gladiators

You can just do the insane audio 9” upgrade and it has wireless car play/android auto not to mention millions of apps from the google play store...Netflix, YouTube etc...

Compared to the Alpine - price vs features I thought it was a no brained. One of the best things I have done.

I actually looked at that and that Alpine last night. So does either one do wireless texting, because that is the feature I really miss. I get so many one liners from work family and friends. It would be great to holler out a quick response like I used to do with my 2015 Ram Sport.

The alpine and insane unit have Apple car play so Siri can respond via text. I know the insane has android platforms as well so it would have voice text. Not sure on the alpine.

With only the BT connection I receive and send texts with my Android, including speech-to-text. My sweetie does the same with Siri and her iPhone. We mostly aren't using CarPlay/Auto, unless on a longer trip.

HOWEVER, that's with the 8.2 UConnect, is that not available on the 7" unit?

The only auto text it will let me finish predefined with Uconnect.

I still have the factory 7” and respond to text all the time.. just gotta use the Siri or android auto not the factory bt connections

Does it have to be plugged into the “media outlets” in the dash? Or, can it be plugged into the USB port in the center console to stay hidden?
