Wiring dash cam to aux switch

Despite wiring lights and other gadgets to my old JKU, ive never had oem aux buttons before.

how do i even go about wiring something to them? Specifically a dash cam.

any suggestions / tips / or a point in the right direction would be amazing

Which dash cam do you have?

I have a Garmin Dash Cam 56 and Garmin's park mode cable. The park mode cable requires constant +, acc+ and ground. With the bundle of 4 aux wires below the glove box are constant + and acc+ wires. If you pull back the carpet over the transmission hump on the passenger side there is a ground lug. I did the installation in 30 minutes. The factory aux switch option really is one of the best options you can get in these things. It should be standard.

TLDR: Don't waste an aux switch on a dash cam.

I have a Garmin Dash Cam 56 and Garmin's park mode cable. The park mode cable requires constant +, acc+ and ground. With the bundle of 4 aux wires below the glove box are constant + and acc+ wires. If you pull back the carpet over the transmission hump on the passenger side there is a ground lug. I did the installation in 30 minutes. The factory aux switch option really is one of the best options you can get in these things. It should be standard.

TLDR: Don't waste an aux switch on a dash cam.

thanks for the info. I haven’t gotten a camera yet because I didn’t want to get one that wouldn’t work.

i get not wasting a aux switch on a dash cam if I intended to put other accessories on. I will likely only add a set of lights to it. No winch, on board air, cb, ect. So having 4 switches is plenty

That will work. You'll be amazed when you realize how accessible and easy the wiring is. There is a bundle of wires taped directly under the glove box. It takes longer to route the cable up through the A-pillar and above the windshield than it does to actually make the connections.

Here is a link to the wiring color codes for that bundle of wires.

The main reason I personally didn't want it on an aux switch is that I know I would turn it off for some reason and forget to turn it back on. That won't happen if it's hard wired to the park mode cable.

thanks for the details. All the parts came in today so ill be giving it a try over the next week or two. Downside to having a busy life..takes me a while to get upgrades done :-/

im probably going to follow your foot steps and avoid the aux switches for now.
Could you be a real hero and snap a couple pics of the under dash connections? Im sure i can find the ground on my own if it’s under the carpet.

At some point I will find a different ground as the ground wire on the Garmin park mode cable is a little snug. It works just fine the way it is, though.

So I realize this thread is dead but I did the same thing you guys did and I'm having some problems. Was hoping you could help. I attached the parking mode cable to the const, ignition, and ground points at the aux cables under the passenger side.

Three problems:
When the auto start/stop shuts the engine off my camera goes into parking mode. When I release the break and the engine starts back up it does not go back into running mode.

With the vehicle off and the camera in parking mode if the camera powers off (seems to happen every night) I have to switch the parking mode box off then on to get power to the camera again.

With the parking mode box in the "off" position the camera does not receive power, but my understanding is it should still receive power when the engine is running.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

I am looking to install a Garmin 67W up front and a Mini 2 in the rear. I’m going to utilize two park cables wired to the two wires that were previously mentioned above. However, I’m going to incorporate a separate switch so that I can disable the battery power going to the park cables leaving the accessory power connected to the dash cams. This way I can flip a switch and only use park mode when parked and really necessary as my Gladiator may sit in the garage for days. I think this will work.

I was trying to do the same but I can't find the 4 aux wires anywhere, I have a 2023 gladiator rubicon
I saw pictures of what they look like but seems not there

Do you have factory Aux Switches?

No, I don't have the 4 push-buttons in the center console.
That's why I was assuming to have the 4 cables tucked in somewhere in the cabin, but truly can't see them anywhere
