The only way is to pull the center console and check the cable. The bolts are 10mm. If you have to adjust the cable or do something to it, it's either a 10mm deep socket or wrench.

First thing to do before taking the console apart is to check that the cables are connected at the rear e-brake actuators, and that the cable housings are still connected to the clips on the axle housing.

There are some good videos on adjusting the e-brake inside the cab. There was a TSB for the JL's (and maybe it applied to the early JT's) so there's some good info out there. Pulling the center console isn't too bad, actually.

This happened to me, I was able to do a trail repair since the issue was the bracket disconnected from the handle. Just had to remove the center console to access.

Had mine fixed. Cable snapped. Replaced that only. No damage to the brake itself
