Howdy folks, we got nearly 40k on my Toyo OC III A/Ts and would like to move into a dedicated mud & general trail tire now that we've checked off the majority of the long trips we planned for our Glady. We moved from Northern PA to KY so my need for something decent in deep snow and ice is no longer as important as well. The kid in me is screaming with joy at the notion that I can finally run a dedicated mud tire without making big sacrifices (or running dedicated snows).

I've been eying up the X-MT. I've had good experiences with Yokohama street tires but I've never ran anything else from them.

Does anyone have experience with the X-MT? Despite their gnarly appearance, ratings and reviews indicate that they've found a great balance between on-road manners and off-road capability but it seems everyone is saying that.

Any insight? Thanks a TON in advance!

Sorry, not the the X-MT. But, I went from the Goodyear Kevlar MTRs in 37" to the Yokohama Geolandar MT g003 in 37", and I really like them a lot. Much better than the Goodyear, and they do not chunk out in the rocks at all. Sidewall has held up great. There are also great on the hwy and they are light. I can recommend them. Note: Where I live, no mud; just rocks, dirt, & Sand, so, I have no experience in mud with them.. Here is a few pics:

Got them in, man they are vicious looking brutes. I have to wait a few weeks to get them mounted & balanced. The only hunter road force equipped shop capable of dynamically balancing them is jammed up until late Dec.

Thanks for posting up about the Yokohama Geolandar X MT tires. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on them. I ran a set of Yokohama Geolandar G003 MT tires on my FJ Cruiser with solid results.

Haven't gotten into much trouble with them yet but all of the areas on our property that I either wouldn't take the truck after heavy rains (unless I had time to deploy trax or winch) have been able to coast right though. That's no bash on the Open Country 3's at all, they just aren't designed for slop and I learned their limitations in mud early but these X-MTs just go. So much so that we've been roaming all over the place with it looking for trouble.

Wife comes home and pulls into the garage these days next to me and just smirks when she comes inside ; ) cause' she knows I'll have some b/s excuse about me and our littles one's patrolling the area checking for any dangers or some such nonsense if she asks.

Their driving characteristics are great for such an aggressive tire. Mine were quiet when they began their life on my JKHR but after 22k total, they are loud AF. Think B-52 Bomber…

How smooth and balanced on road do they feel? My km3s are great in the slop and not bad in the noise department, but they are not a great riding tire as far as smoothness on road at highway speeds.

I had to go past a few shops to get them dynamically balanced on hunter road force equipment. As has been the case when I go this route, they track great and drive wonderfully at speed. I plan to record a video at 70 or better some point soon. I think (from my own mistakes) that static balancing or worse yet, beads, are an incredibly sub-par option that happens to cost the same.

I think the XMT’s look amazing. This video is an interesting comparison and review.

So Personally, if money was no issue to me, I’d replace my XMTs with 37” KM3s in a heartbeat. Take that with a grain of salt because I’ve never ran them but I had 37” KM2s that I absolutely loved. I only bought the XMTs because they stopped making the KM2s and the tread pattern is similar.

For what the XMTs look like, they ride smooth. But I am in the unique position where I run different tires in the winter and the difference is considerable. But I do call my winter tires car tires so there’s that…
