Almost 5 years ago I bought my first Jeep, the Gladiator. It was a Sport S with all the options (including the Max Tow, is that even still a thing?). Anyway, with no intention of Off Roading, 6 months into ownership, a couple off roading weekends and I was hooked.
With many years in now, lots of local Texas wheeling at Hidden Falls and a couple long distance trips (last year I did Moab EJS and Jeep Jamboree Texas Spur Bonus), I’ve done yet another bucket list adventure.
Ouray, Colorado.
I could literally post hundreds of photos (I think I have over 300), so I’ll try and keep it to my favorites. This Jeep community really shines when you’re meeting new people away from your home element. Example: I met a couple members from here! I was in off roading heaven (at over 13,000 feet, It definitely felt like it !) What an amazing experience. Special thanks to the Texas-based OffRoading101 team for leading the way, and the new friends I met during the week, y’all are awesome!
So, while I felt like we did every trail, we did miss a few, mainly due to exhaustion by the ned of the week. And Black Bear Pass isn’t one you want to be "halfway" ready for. However, we did conquer msot of the big ones. Poughkeepsie Pass, as well as Imogene, Ophir, Engineer, Yankee Boy, Corkscrew, Mineral, Governor and many others. The trails, the scenery, the weather, the group, all made for an adventure of a lifetime.
Ouray, CO: 10/10 Highly Recommend!
For those wondering about the build, yes, it started out as a Sport-S, but is now basically a Rubicon. Last year before Moab, I rebuilt the rig with Falcon Shocks, Synergy Stage 3 lift, 3" lift, Falcon stabilizer, CavFab bumpers, Nemesis Fender Flares, 39" BFG KM3 tires, Yukon 5:13 gears, ARB dual air compressor and F&R air lockers, and an Anti-Rock front sway bar. This year we added KMC Beadlocks, 4.5" EVO springs, a Rubicon 4:1 transfer case, rear Anti-Rock, Moto-Bilt Cab protection and sliders, PSC Hydro-Assist steering and a rear view camera/mirror. I'm sure i'm missing several key components, if you have any questions, just ask.
What I find almost everytime I go off-roading is people think this is just a pretty mall crawler with stickers. When they see mine off-road, they are shocked. As I look around at other Jeeps, I think "make it special, make it yours". My point is, it is possible to build a good looking Jeep (yes, with graphics and stickers) and still go off-road.
Enjoy the pics!
