As the owner of a premium soft top gladiator, anything labeled Twill is on my radar. I’ve acquired 2 piece soft doors (twill), and I have just recently managed to pick up a twill ‘supertop for truck’ off of Facebook marketplace.

This thread is an attempt to bring attention to the ‘Supertop for Truck’ as a platform for potential upgrades. Some upgrades might include; ventilated side and rear panels, side window panels, & replacement parts.

I bought the ‘supertop for truck’ instead of a Softtoper because matching the twill material was important to me. The Softtoper (which is owned by Bestop) has accessories that are not available for the ‘Supertop for truck’. I wonder why Bestop chooses not to support their own product, and instead chooses to support a company that used to be their competitor.

That looks great. I want one of these so bad, just can't justify the $1500 price tag right now.

My take on what you're asking about.

First, Softtopper was already established with all the accessories when BesTop bought the company. So no R&D needed to be done to get those accessories.

Second, it took BesTop a LOT longer to develop and get to market the SuperTop than they anticipated. Then their cost was for the product was almost double what they estimated.
The first run had QC issues, fitment issues, and a LOT of angry customers.

Third, the market for the SuperTop for JT's probably did not hit the numbers they expected so they can't justify R&D funds to create the accessories you're looking for. The accessories would probably double the cost of the SuperTop.

I wanted one for quite a while, then Bestop shipped me garbage slider steps that clearly weren't manufacturer properly then wanted to charge me a 30% restocking fee when I wanted to return poorly designed and built garbage. To make matters worse, when i finally got to a person willing to return the product without the restocking fee, they said they didn't even want the steps back and wouldn't be restocking them. So what was the "restocking fee" for then?

I still love my Sunrider, and if mine ever breaks i'll buy another, but i won't buy anything from Bestop where there is a competitive product made by someone else.

Bestop stated that the Softtopper is intended for camping, and the Supertop is intended for transport/coverage. This explains the differences between access and accessories on each one. They stated this is why they weren't planning to develop accessories or different pieces for the Supertop, coupled with it already being available for the Softtopper that they own. I don't know where, but it was posted on here maybe a year ago, directly by one of their reps.

I'm not 100% sure I'm adding to the discussion, but, here's why I'm considering the Supertop. Options. By having one set of rails that accommodates both a tonneau and a cap I can swap between the two when necessary. Admittedly, I know nothing about the Softtopper so, if that system offers both options it may be something I should consider. The only thing I wish is that I could buy the Supertop mounting rails with the tonneau first and add the cap later. Buy-in would be a lot less and allow for the upgrade to the cap later.

Fas-top makes one that is a tonneau and cap combined. Both installed at the same time.

Thank you
I have their topper without the tonneau, and can attest to their quality and customer service. It’s not the same fabric as bestop, but it’s VERY durable. The first picture is September of 2021 when it was a couple months old. The second picture is this week, so three years old. It’s held up very well. It is filthy this week however. ;)
