This past weeked we loaded up the JT with our gear, family, and ATV's and did a 400+ mile round trip from NoVA to Mountain Ridge ATV Park in PA. The trailer itself plus the 4 wheelers, our gear, bunch of gasoline, etc was probably around 4500 pounds give or take. Takeaways are this:
- The cab is plenty spacious for 2 adults and 2 kids in car seats, we had plenty of room for the drive (this was a concern for me because we had a 2018 F150 Lariat prior to the JT)
- the 3.6 and 8spd transmission are a great powertrain. Even on some long climbs and descents in PA it didnt feel like it was wanting for power, and the transmission always seemed to be in the appropriate gear. Really impressed, especially since I'm used to towing our trailer with a much bigger truck.
- We averaged 11 mpg. Given all the elevation changes, this is not really too terrible imho
- RedArc Tow-Pro brake controller is awesome. Worked great the whole time in proportional mode. Absolutely great unit, would highly recommend it if you tow.
- The Diamondback bed cover worked out great, worth every penny. Kept all of our gear in the bed water and dust-free, and provided us with a ton of dry storage for the stuff we wouldn't have been able to fit in the cab/bring with us otherwise.
- Mountain Ridge ATV park is a great place. Something for everyone, super clean, and family-friendly environment. If you're within a few hours drive of it and in to ATV's, definitely should spend a weekend checking the place out.
